Tässä artikkelissa esitellään dynaamista käyttöpohjaista lähestymistapaa (dynamic usage-based approach), joka tutkii oppijankieltä dynaamisena systeeminä. In order to improve the comfort of customers and reduce the health impact, acoustic and vibration mechanisms of gearboxes have to be understood and simulated during development phases. Thus, we first present the global methodology chosen to compute main gearboxes noise in helicopter cabins. Secondly, we described the way we compute mechanical excitation sources induced from gear mesh, static transmission error and meshing stiffness. This article examines adult L2 Finnish learners’ perceptions of listening difficulties and compensatory strategies in everyday situations. The data consist of questionnaire answers (N = 202) and five semi-structured interviews. The answers were grouped according to the reasons why listening difficulties were experienced. The number of times each reason was mentioned was calculated in order to find out to what extent the reasons were shared by the group. The interviews were used as a complementary resource for analysing the questionnaire answers. This article investigates how war between humans and aliens is framed in the original and reimagined versions of the SF television series V and the affective responses and ethical considerations that these frames evoke. Inspired by the work of Judith Butler and Sarah Ahmed and by posthumanist thinking, I analyse how SF television takes part in the cultural formation of “livable lives” for both human and nonhuman beings. Social media is an increasingly important tool for the dissemination of misogynistic, xenophobic, and nationalist radical-right messages. As injurious modes of communication spread on the internet and trickle into societal discussions, polarizing communication also becomes normalized in traditional media and everyday discussions. In this chapter, we trace how disgust becomes politicized in radical-right populist rhetoric online. The radical right movement’s affective discourse is used to arouse strong emotions in the followers. Terveydenhuoltoalalla kieli on keskeisessä osassa työn onnistumisessa, ja siksi on olennaista tutkia maahanmuuttajataustaisten lääkäreiden ja hoitajien kielitaidon kehittymistä. This article takes up a central question of Kirsti Siitonen’s dissertation – how advancedness in Finnish as a second language can be characterized – and investigates it from the perspective of research terminology as well as the lived experience of language users. We first discuss how and with what implications advanced learners of Finnish have been referred to in the research literature, i.e. whether they have been regarded as learners, speakers or other kinds of language users. Applying a small stories approach to interview data from different research projects, we then explore what advancedness means to such language users themselves.
