Spin Pumping and Torque Statistics in the Quantum Noise Limit
2017
We analyze the statistics of charge and energy currents and spin torque in a metallic nanomagnet coupled to a large magnetic metal via a tunnel contact. We derive a Keldysh action for the tunnel barrier, describing the stochastic currents in the presence of a magnetization precessing with the rate Ω. In contrast to some earlier approaches, our result is valid for an arbitrary ratio of ℏΩ/kBT. We illustrate the use of the action by deriving spintronic fluctuation relations, the quantum limit of pumped current noise, and consider the fluctuations in two specific cases: the situation with a stable precession of magnetization driven by spin transfer torque, and the torque-induced switching betw…
Hölder regularity for the gradient of the inhomogeneous parabolic normalized p-Laplacian
2018
In this paper, we study an evolution equation involving the normalized [Formula: see text]-Laplacian and a bounded continuous source term. The normalized [Formula: see text]-Laplacian is in non-divergence form and arises for example from stochastic tug-of-war games with noise. We prove local [Formula: see text] regularity for the spatial gradient of the viscosity solutions. The proof is based on an improvement of flatness and proceeds by iteration.
Regularity for nonlinear stochastic games
2015
We establish regularity for functions satisfying a dynamic programming equation, which may arise for example from stochastic games or discretization schemes. Our results can also be utilized in obtaining regularity and existence results for the corresponding partial differential equations. peerReviewed
Toimijuus korkeakoulutettujen suomen oppijoiden visuaalisissa narratiiveissa
2018
This socioculturally informed study explores how highly educated Finnish language learners represent their agency in visual narratives. Learners (n=59) were asked to draw two pictures of themselves as Finnish language users and provide verbal interpretations of the drawings. The aim of using visual narratives is to reach aspects such as feelings and beliefs which might be difficult to express verbally. The data were analyzed first by using visual grammar set out by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) and secondly by content analysis. The findings suggest that learners saw Finnish language as a tool for oral communication. However, difficulties with speaking and listening appeared to restrict learn…

Visuaaliset resurssit suomi toisena kielenä -oppitunneilla : multimodaalinen näkökulma
2013
The marketplace vulnerability of low-income unbanked consumers : a developing country perspective
2018
Financial exclusion is recognised as an important element of socio-economic inequality where economically vulnerable groups are excluded from basic financial services. The issue of financial exclusion is mainly concentrated in the world’s developing countries. However, research on the issue of financial exclusion in the field of marketing as well as from the perspective of unbanked consumers is lacking. Although financial exclusion impedes low-income consumers’ welfare, there is a shortage of wellbeing related studies on low-income consumers in the context of developing countries. This doctoral dissertation aims to investigate the ways in which low-income unbanked consumers experience vulne…
Selkokieltä vuorovaikutuksessa : tapaustutkimus Lukumummi ja -vaari -toiminnasta
2017
Tämän kandidaatintutkielman aihe on selkokielinen vuorovaikutus suomi toisena kielenä -oppijan ja äidinkielisen puhujan välillä. Selkokielistä vuorovaikutusta on tähän mennessä tutkittu hyvin vähän, kakkoskielisessä vuorovaikutuksessa ei Suomessa lainkaan. Aineistona on kaksi lukutuokioäänitettä yhdeltä Niilo Mäki Instituutin Lukumummi ja -vaari -toimintaan osallistuneelta lukuparilta. Tutkimuskysymykseni ovat: 1. Onko seniorin vuorovaikutuksessa selkokielen ohjeiden mukaisia piirteitä? 2. Onko vuorovaikutuksen selkokielisyydessä havaittavissa muutoksia ensimmäisen ja kymmenennen tuokion välillä? Metodina tutkimuksessa on käytetty keskustelunanalyysiä aiemman, aihetta lähellä olevan tutkimu…

Situated at the intersection of usage-based and social interactional approaches to L2 learning (CA-SLA, in particular) and informed by usage-based research, this study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the role of objects in understanding and designing language learning activities. In particular, this study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the role of smartphones in group discussions in L2 classrooms. The data comes from “learning-in-the-Wild” tasks designed for courses focusing on conversational Finnish. The interactions around these activities were videotaped and analysed using the methods of multimodal conversation analysis. The analysis shows that in the cla…
