The introduction of the Euro and its effects on portfolio decisions

Abstract Examining investment behavior related to the Euro introduction, we address the relevance of different investment determinants. With the advent of the currency union two potential sources of portfolio reallocation can be distinguished: First, the diminishment of exchange rate risk and transaction costs within the EMU. Second, the increase of correlation of EMU returns so that diversification benefits decreased. We test for structural breaks in the holdings of German investors and estimate a market model to account for the two effects. One of the most successful approaches to option hedging with transaction costs is the utility based approach pioneered by Hodges and Neuberger (1989). Optimal Index Tracking Under Transaction Costs and Impulse Control

We apply impulse control techniques to a cash management problem within a mean-variance framework. We consider the strategy of an investor who is trying to minimise both fixed and proportional transaction costs, whilst minimising the tracking error with respect to an index portfolio. The cash weight is constantly fluctuating due to the stochastic inflow and outflow of dividends and liabilities. We show the existence of an optimal strategy and compute it numerically.
Structural and evolutionary analysis of the copia-like elements in the Arabidopsis thaliana genome.

The analysis of 460 kb of genomic sequence of Arabidopsis thaliana chromosome III allowed us to identify two new transposable elements named AtC1 and AtC2. AtC1 shows identical long terminal repeats (LTRs) and all the structural features characteristic of the copia-like active elements. AtC2 is also a full copia-like element, but a putative stop codon in the open reading frame (ORF) would produce a truncated protein. A striking feature of the metabolite pattern of the Southeast Asian liana Ancistrocladus tectorius (Ancistrocladaceae) is the predominance of 5,1′-coupled naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids. About 20 alkaloids of this coupling type have so far been discovered in this plant species. Here, we report on the isolation of four new 5,1′-linked naphthylisoquinolines from the twigs and stems of A. tectorius. Two of them, the ancistrobenomines B (5) and C (6), belong to the very rare group of alkaloids with a fully dehydrogenated isoquinoline portion. International audience; TBVAC2020 is a research project supported by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission (EC). It aims at the discovery and development of novel tuberculosis (TB) vaccines from preclinical research projects to early clinical assessment. The project builds on previous collaborations from 1998 onwards funded through the EC framework programs FP5, FP6, and FP7. It has succeeded in attracting new partners from outstanding laboratories from all over the world, now totaling 40 institutions. Los estudios sobre el virus de la polio comenzaron en Valencia en 1959 de la mano del microbiólogo Vicente Sanchis-Bayarri Vaillant. Tras su formación en virología en la Universidad de Rochester y en el Instituto Pasteur, puso en marcha un laboratorio de cultivos celulares en la Facultad de Medicina de Valencia, en donde desarrolló una técnica diagnóstica nueva para el virus de la polio. Las pinturas murales de los arcosolios del Cementerio del Conjunto Histórico de San Juan del Hospital de Valencia

Los últimos trabajos de restauración llevados a cabo en los arcosolios del cementerio del Conjunto Histórico de San Juan del Hospital de Valencia han sacado a la luz parte de las pinturas murales que sirvieron como decoración al intradós de estas pequeñas arquitecturas funerarias. Dichas pinturas, ocultas bajo diferentes capas de cal desde mediados del siglo XIV, se suman a las descubiertas en las anteriores etapas de rehabilitación y restauración en la capilla de San Miguel y en el arcosolio llamado de Fernández Heredia. De este modo el conjunto hospitalario se sitúa entre los monumentos con más numerosos e interesantes restos pictóricos murales de época medieval de la ciudad de Valencia. …

La escoliosis idiopática del adolescente (EIA) es una enfermedad que afecta de forma tri-dimensional a la estructura de la columna vertebral. Aunque su prevalencia en la población adolescente es baja, entre el 1-3%, la repercusión económica que acarrea su cribado, diagnóstico y tratamiento son elevados. Los programas de cribado actuales carecen de suficiente evidencia científica de calidad que los respalde. Las características físicas de los sujetos facilitan el éxito de cada uno de los distintos deportes y la práctica deportiva profesionalizada lleva asociada un tipo y grado de lesiones relacionada con el deporte. HIPÓTESIS DE TRABAJO La práctica deportiva difiere de un tipo de deporte a otro e incluso dentro de él, en función de las acciones que requieren las distintas posiciones de juego.
