The Olivetti factory, founded in the 1930s, experienced a total transformation in the post-war period thanks to Adriano Olivetti, who, from 1946 to 1960, created an educational project for modernizing his enterprise and making it more international. Olivetti’s “concrete utopia” was constructed around the idea of a “community”, guiding the life of the factory towards a more conscious and responsible participation, by tending to blur the division between managers and workers and between working and private life. Adriano Olivetti (1901-1960) was the promoter of an unprecedented business project that not only concerned the economic sphere, but also included architecture, social development, politics, the value of the person and of the culture. This paper examines the educational role played by culture in the Olivetti’s project as a way of human growth. To clarify the identity of the Olivetti’s culture, various sources were questioned: the personal library, the editorial choices, his coworkers and the good educational practices carried out in the Olivetti factory. This paper introduces to the idea of person that Adriano Olivetti placed at the center of his community project in post-World War II Italy. The central hypothesis is that the original olivettian personalism did not originate from his contact with the philosophers of the magazine "Esprit", but from the experiences lived by Olivetti in his factory that he transformed into an educational community, a place of flowering of person and a laboratory of democratic education.
