Cholinesterase activity and exposure time to acetylcholine as factors influencing the muscarinic inhibition of [3H]-noradrenaline overflow from guine…
1985
Guinea-pig isolated atria were incubated and loaded with [3H]-noradrenaline. The release of 3H and of [3H]-noradrenaline was induced by field stimulation (6-9 trains of 150 pulses at 5 Hz). The stimulation-evoked overflows of 3H and of [3H]-noradrenaline were determined. In the absence of an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, acetylcholine (12 min preincubation before nerve stimulation, up to 10 microM) failed to inhibit the evoked [3H]-noradrenaline overflow. In the presence of atropine, an increase by acetylcholine of evoked release was observed in the same atria. In contrast, the selective muscarinic agonist methacholine significantly decreased the evoked overflow. The inhibition was ant…
The non-neuronal cholinergic system in peripheral blood cells: Effects of nicotinic and muscarinic receptor antagonists on phagocytosis, respiratory …
2007
Peripheral blood cells express the complete non-neuronal cholinergic system. For example synthesis of acetylcholine and nicotinic as well muscarinic receptors have been demonstrated in leucocytes isolated from human peripheral blood. In the present experiments mononuclear cells and granulocytes were isolated from the peripheral blood to investigate content and synthesis of acetylcholine as well as phenotypic functions like respiratory burst, phagocytosis and migration. Mononuclear cells (T-cells and monocytes) contained 0.36 pmol/10(6) cells acetylcholine, whereas acetylcholine content in granulocytes was 100-fold lower. Acetylcholine synthesis amounted to 23.2+/-4.7 nmol/mg protein/h and 2…
Vadimonium nossale ed exhibitio in eadem causa
2016
The author reconsiders the problem concerning the meaning of the words ' in eadem causa' in the vadimonium ex noxali causa. On the basis of D. 2.9.1.1 (Ulp. 7 ad ed.) and D. 2.9.5 (Ulp. 47 ad Sab.) he tries to point out an historical evolution in the interpretation of these words.

Typification of the name Statice calcarae (Plumbaginaceae), basionym of the threatened endemic Limonium calcarae
2018
Limonium calcarae (basionym Statice calcarae), a rare diploid species endemic to Sicily, is one of the few members of the genus that occurs in the inland areas of the island. According to IUCN criteria, it has been assessed as critically endangered but recent data on its distribution, demography and threats affecting its populations are lacking. A lectotype is designated, preserved at PAL, and isolectotypes have been traced and verified in other European herbaria.
Karyology of Limonium (Plumbaginaceae) species from the Balearic Islands and the western Iberian Peninsula
2007
Somatic chromosome numbers, conventional karyotype features and idiograms are reported for 27 Limonium species inhabiting the Western Mediterranean basin (Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands). The chromosome numbers of Limonium barceloi (2n = 36), L. ejulabilis (2n = 24), L. inexpectans (2n = 26), L. interjectum (2n = 24), and L. scopulorum (2n = 25) were determined for the first time. In addition, new aneuploid and/or polyploid cytotypes are reported in L. alcudianum (2n = 26), L. bonafei (2n = 26), L. camposanum (2n = 26), L. companyonis (2n = 26), L. dufourii (2n = 26), L. geronense (2n = 36), L. marisolii (2n = 54), L. migjornense (2n = 50), and L. pseudodictyocladon (2n = 16). A…
Limonium carvalhoi (Plumbaginaceae), a new endemic species from the Balearic Islands
1998
ROSSELLO, J.A., L. SAEZ & A.C. CARVALHO (1998). Limonium carvalhoi (Plumbaginaceae), a new endemic species from the Balearic Islands. Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 56(1): 23-31. Limonium carvalhoi Rossello & L. Saez is described from a single salt marsh locality in southwest Majorca. Morphologically, L. carvalhoi is ciose to L. inexpectans, L. migjornense and L. magallufianum , all Balearic endemics. The new species has an apomictic breeding system and shows a single pollen/stigma combination (B/papillate type). Chromosome number ranges from 2n = 24 to 2n = 26. Based on the occurrence of a long metacentric chromosome in all cells examined, it is suggested that the original chromosome complement …
Inhibitoren der Korrosion 30 (1,2) - Vergleichende Studien über das Verhalten bekannter und bisher unbekannter Inhibitoren der Korrosion des Kupfers …
1985
Halogen Bonded Analogues of Deep Cavity Cavitands
2014
The first examples of halogen bonded analogues of deep cavity cavitands with guest binding properties, formed between N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene halides as acceptors and bromotrichloromethane as the donor, are reported in the solid state and in solution.
Early plant succession in two abandoned cut-over peatland areas
1990
Initial stages of plant succession (from 0 to 8 or 9 yr) were studied on abandoned peat harvest sites of two adjacent areas in Finland. At the Mustasuo area only 13 field layer species, all perennials, and 3 ground layer species became established during that period and species composition stayed relatively constant. All species occurred sparsely with low biomass. The Riitasuo area was colonized by 43 field layer and 19 ground layer species during the first 8 yr of succession. In that area the originally plantless sites were totally covered by plants within a few years. Many of the first species to arrive were annuals, most of which were soon replaced by perennial species. The great differe…
