Tell me a story and I will tell you who you are! Lens model analyses of personality and creative writing

2010

Abstract We elucidated the accuracy of personality judgments based on creative writing by means of lens model analyses. Targets ( N  = 79) wrote short stories with five predefined words. Observers rated the Big Five dimensions and general knowledge of the targets who wrote these stories. Three main findings were revealed: (a) the Big Five and general knowledge were consensually judged by observers; (b) judgments of openness to experience, agreeableness, and general knowledge were accurate; and (c) accuracies were achieved due to the correct usage of valid cues. Additionally, we replicated all results in a second sample of targets ( N =  126). Results are discussed in comparison to other are…

Personality Traits, Partisan Attitudes, and Voting Behavior. Evidence from Germany

2007

Political psychology has paid rather little attention to personality traits when explaining political attitudes and political behavior in mass publics. The present paper argues that personality traits contribute to our understanding of political attitude formation and decision making of ordinary citizens. Based on the Five Factor Model of Personality, we state hypotheses regarding the effects of personality traits on partisan attitudes and vote choice in Germany. We test the hypotheses using survey data obtained from a random sample of the Germans eligible to vote. The evidence confirms that personality traits indirectly affect partisan attitudes and voting behavior in Germany in predictabl…

Personality and Turnout: Results from the Finnish Longitudinal Studies

2011

Scholars in the field of electoral participation have for long been aware that turnout is strongly connected to sociopsychological variables such as religiosity, party identification, political interest and sense of political efficacy. The impact of personality characteristics has remained largely unexplored until recently. Based on the Jyvaskyla Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS, original N = 369), this article analyses the links between individuals' personality traits and their propensity to vote at ages 36, 42 and 50. The personality traits are measured by using the five-factor model of personality consisting of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness,…

Modelo de personalidad HEXACO: Relaciones con psicopatología emocional en una muestra española [HEXACO personality model: Relationships with emotiona…

2014

This study examines the relationships between personality dimensions and obsessive-compulsive and depressive psychopathology signs, on the basis of the new 6-dimension HEXACO personality model:Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, eXtraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience. Participants were 354 individuals from the general population, from which 21 were at risk of depression (r-DEP) and 29 at risk of obsessive-compulsive disorder (r-OCD). Jointly, the 6 personality dimensions explained 42% of the BDI-II score in the r-DEP group, and 37% of the C-BOCI score in the r-OCD group. The two at-risk groups differed from the no-risk participants in all the personality dime…

Can personality predict retirement behaviour? A longitudinal analysis combining survey and register data from Norway.

2017

Published version of an article in the journal: European Journal of Ageing. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10433-011-0212-6 This study investigates how far personality can predict the timing and routes of people’s retirement. It uses a large comprehensive Norwegian survey, with larger sample size than earlier related studies, providing estimates of personality based on the five-factor model. The survey data are matched with administrative data, allowing observations of retirement over the 2002–2007 period. The analysis distinguishes between the disability and the non-disability retirements. Retirement is investigated using discrete time, competing risk, log…

Selective Introduction of Acid Sites in Different Confined Positions in ZSM-5 and Its Catalytic Implications

2018

Controlling the location of acid sites in zeolites can have a great effect on catalysis. In this work we face the objective of directing the location of Al into the 10R channels of ZSM-5 by taking advantage of the structural preference of B to occupy certain positions at the channel intersections, as suggested by theoretical calculations. The synthesis of B-Al-ZSM-5 zeolites with variable Si/Al and Si/B ratios, followed by B removal in a postsynthesis treatment, produces ZSM-5 samples enriched in Al occupying positions at 10R channels. The location of the acid sites is determined on the basis of the product distribution of 1-hexene cracking as a test reaction. The higher selectivity to prop…

Some problems in number theory that arise from group theory

2021

In this expository paper, we present several open problems in number theory that have arisen while doing research in group theory. These problems are on arithmetical functions or partitions. Solving some of these problems would allow to solve some open problem in group theory.

On Conditioning Operators

1999

The construction of conditional events (so-called measure-free conditioning) has a long history and is one of the fundamental problems in non-deterministic system theory (cf. [6]). In particular, the iteration of measure-free conditioning is still an open problem. The present paper tries to make a contribution to this question. In particular, we give an axiomatic introduction of conditioning operators which act as binary operations on the universe of events. The corresponding axiom system of this type of operators focus special attention on the intuitive understanding that the event ‘α given β’ is somewhere in “between” ‘α and β’ and ‘β implies α’. A detailed motivation of these axioms can …

Improved (photo)catalytic propene hydration in a gas/solid system by using heteropolyacid/oxide composites: Electron paramagnetic resonance, acidity,…

2017

Binary materials composed of the oxides SiO2, TiO2 and N-doped TiO2 and the Keggin heteropolyacid (PW12) were prepared and physicochemically characterized. They were used as catalysts and photocatalysts for the hydration of propene to 2-propanol. The characterization of the samples, particularly the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy results and the acidity properties, were useful to explain the key role played by the PW12 in the composite materials in the thermal and photoassisted catalytic processes. The simultaneous pres-ence of heat and UV light improved the activity of PW12 in the thermal process, and the binary materials showed better (photo)catalytic activities than t…

Cyclopentadienylmolybdenum(II) and -(III) complexes containing diene and allyl ligands. Part 4. Reactivity studies of the bisallyl complex CpMo(supin…

1998

Abstract Compound CpMo( η 3 -C 3 H 5 ) 2 , 3, has been synthesized from CpMoCl 4 and four equivalents of allylmagnesium bromide. While the compound is stable in donor solvents at room temperature, warming in refluxing MeCN induces the formation of 1,5-hexadiene by a metal-mediated allyl-allyl coupling process. Treatment of 3 with Bu t NC at room temperature affords CpMo( η 3 -C 3 H 5 )(Bu t NC) 2 , 4. A similar reduction with presumed allyl radical loss occurs for [CpMo( η 3 -C 3 H 5 )( η 4 -C 4 H 6 )] + , [1c] + , to afford [CpMo( η 4 -C 4 H 6 )(Bu t NC) 2 ] + , 5. Treatment of [1c] + with methyllithium affords two products, the major one (1c) corresponding to the one-electron reduction pa…
