Video-assisted two-stage basilic vein transposition for creation of brachio-basilic arteriovenous fistulae

We report our experience in a mixed minimally-in- vasive technique for the two-stage transposition of basilic vein on a small series of eight patients. The operative tech- nique consisted of a modified endoscopic (1) approach for the two-stage transposition (2). The intervention was performed under Brachial Plexus Block (3).

Postoperative alterations in amino acid exchange across the intestinal tract and in the capacity for protein absorption were investigated in a chronic canine model. Changes in postoperative splanchnic amino acid exchange consisted of a temporary decrease of total splanchnic amino acid release, including a significant reduction in alanine production, and an increase in glutamine consumption. Contrary to results under stable metabolic conditions, branched chain amino acids were also taken up by the intestine in the early postoperative period. PURPOSE To evaluate risk factors for endophthalmitis after cataract surgery and to retest recent findings on the protective effect of intraoperative antibiosis and the promoting effect of the clear corneal as compared to sclerocorneal incision. Purpose: To investigate pressure and maximum rate of rise of systolic pressure (peak dP/dt) in completely excluded aneurysms and endoleaks to determine the hemodynamic impact of endoleaks. Methods: In mongrel dogs (n = 36) experimental aneurysms were created by insertion of a patch (portion of rectus abdominis muscle sheath) into the infrarenal aorta. From 1967 to 1985, 246 cystectomies for treatment of transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder were performed. Perioperative mortality decreased from 15% in the early years to 0% in 1985. Preoperative radiotherapy was not given. Patients who underwent cystectomy immediately following the diagnosis of invasive bladder carcinoma had a significantly better prognosis than those having cystectomy after recurrence of a transurethrally resected invasive carcinoma in spite of identical G and T criteria. The use of elderly donors has been advocated to expand the organ donor pool because of increased needs and the organ shortage. The aim of this study was to analyze whether the use of elderly donors and marginal kidneys affected the outcome of renal transplantations. Herein we presented data on 126 kidney transplantations performed from January 1996 to September 2003 using 32 marginal donors (group A) and 94 ideal donors (group B). We analyzed the medical and surgical complications and the graft survivals at a median follow-up of 18 months. Transverse Small Skin Incision for Carotid Endarterectomy

The purpose of this report is to determine the feasibility of short transverse skin incision (STI4 cm) for eversion (EEA) and patch (PEA) endarterectomy with or without shunt by comparing it with the outcomes after long transverse skin incision (LTI 4-8 cm).Of 164 elective consecutive patients (71 ± 2.73% symptomatic) operated at one institution over 24 months, 81 were treated with STI, while 83 patients received LTI.
