Anomální Ramanovy módy v teluridech
2021
[EN] Two anomalous broad bands are usually found in the Raman spectrum of bulk and 2D Te-based chalcogenides, which include binary compounds, like ZnTe, CdTe, HgTe, GaTe, GeTe, SnTe, PbTe, GeTe2, As2Te3, Sb2Te3, Bi2Te3, NiTe2, IrTe2, and TiTe2, as well as ternary compounds, like GaGeTe, SnSb2Te4, SnBi2Te4, and GeSb2Te5. Many different explanations have been proposed in the literature for the origin of the anomalous broad bands in tellurides, usually located between 119 and 145 cm(-1). They have been attributed to the intrinsic Raman modes of the sample, to oxidation of the sample, to the folding of Brillouin-edge modes onto the zone center, to the existence of a double resonance, like that …
Numerical investigation of rain droplet impact on offshore wind turbine blades under different rainfall conditions: A parametric study
2020
The leading edge of a fiber composite wind turbine blade (WTB) is prone to erosion damages due to repeated rain droplet impact during its service life. Such damages are critical to the blade's aerodynamic as well as structural performance, ultimately resulting in substantial repair costs. An effective design of a coating material for WTB is necessary and its analysis must include variables associated with erosive rain droplets such as (1) droplet diameter, (2) impact velocity, and (3) droplet impact angle. The present paper develops and validates a coupled fluid structure interaction (FSI) computational model for simulating rain droplet impact on WTBs, where the structure domain is modelled…
Managing asymmetry in franchise contracts: transparency as the overriding rule
2012
PurposeThe aim of this article is to provide solutions to protect the weaker party in management and distribution contracts, especially in the field of franchising.Design/methodology/ approachThe paper is based on a review of literature, legislation and practices concerning management and franchise contracts. The regulation of this field at a national level consists of laws that are both private and mandatory in nature. Certain questions are raised concerning the obligatory nature of regulations when applied to the management of international franchise contracts.FindingsThis article studies the question of whether the imperative application of laws to international contract management is ap…
Safety and efficacy of intensity-modulated radiotherapy in the management of spermatic cord sarcoma.
2017
International audience; Purpose. - Spermatic cord sarcoma is a rare disease, which management remains controversial due to the lack of guidelines. The standard therapeutic approach is surgical: wide soft-tissue resection with radical inguinal orchidectomy, The diagnosis is made during the analysis of the specimen. The high rate of local recurrence indicates adjuvant radiotherapy of the tumor bed. The aim of this series is to determine the efficacy and safety of postoperative intensity-modulated radiotherapy for spermatic cord sarcomas. Patients and methods. - Our series included five consecutive cases of spermatic cord sarcoma treated between 2011 and 2014. The indications for radiotherapy …
Guided hierarchical co-assembly of soft patchy nanoparticles.
2013
Different polymers can be used in combination to produce coexisting nanoparticles of different symmetry and tailored to co-assemble into well-ordered binary and ternary hierarchical structures. There is considerable practical interest in developing the tools to fabricate multicomponent artificial systems that mimic the hierarchical ordering seen in the natural world — complex biomaterials can be assembled from the simple but precisely defined molecular building blocks. Andre Groschel and colleagues have developed a bottom-up approach that's a step in that direction. Previously they designed simple linear polymers that self-assemble in solution to produce monodisperse nanoparticles with well…
Categorical Modeling Method, Proof of Concept for the Petri Net Language
2019
Modeling increases the importance of processes significantly, but also imposes higher requirements for the accuracy of process specifications, since an error in the design of a process may only be discovered after it already produces large cumulative losses. We believe that modeling tools can help build better models in a shorter time. This inevitably results in the need to build formal models that can be theoretically verified. A category as well as a model is a mixture of graphical information and algebraic operations. Therefore, category language seems to be the most general to describe the models. The category theory offers an integrated vision of the concepts of a model, and also provi…
The minimal cost maximum matching of a graph (supplementary remarks)
1971
In addition to the preceding paper, it will be shown that (1) the matching problem is closely related to the linear assignment problem and how (2) this property can be taken advantage of for solving the matching problem.
Recent Developments in our Approach to Multiple-Criteria Decision Making
1984
Approximately ten years ago we began a study of multiple criteria decision making at the European Insti tute for Advanced Studies in Management in Brussels. The project started as a way of finding a multiple objective linear programming method that would work better than those tested by Wallenius (1975). We did a substantial amount of work on the problem and came up with such a method (Zionts and Wallenius, 1976). Wallenius’ (1975) thesis, one of the first outputs of that project, comprises a rather significant piece of research in the multiple criteria area. Since that time our work has continued. We have worked together on a great deal of it; some of it has involved students and other fac…
Is translation an autopoietic system?
2010
Translation is analyzed from the standpoint of its systemic properties. Translation is shown to have the capacity to observe itself and its difference from the environment. Observation being a major autopoietic factor, translation may be considered as an autopoietic system. Doubts about this hypothesis arise because of the peculiarities of communicative properties of translation. Translation plays the role of the mediating party in complex translation communication events and its communicative behavior is ‘defective’ in that translation does not act upon source messages because its communicative function is passing messages on to the target party. As a system, translation may be studied aga…
