Strategies for Including Patients Recruited During Interim Analysis of Clinical Trials
2007
In clinical trials a periodical check of safety and efficacy data is often needed. For organizational reasons it is rarely desirable to stop a trial during such an interim analysis. Therefore, new study patients are included in the trial while the interim analysis is ongoing. Disregarding the additional information provided by these interim patients would be unsatisfactory, especially for an office of regulatory affairs. Consequently, the rules for group sequential or adaptive decisions must be adjusted to the recruitment of interim patients. In this paper, two strategies for modifying study designs to consider the analysis of interim patients are proposed.
Characterization and Decomposition of the Natural van der Waals SnSb2Te4 under Compression
2020
[EN] High pressure X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, and electrical measurements, together with theoretical calculations, which include the analysis of the topological electron density and electronic localization function, evidence the presence of an isostructural phase transition around 2 GPa, a Fermi resonance around 3.5 GPa, and a pressure-induced decomposition of SnSb2Te4 into the high-pressure phases of its parent binary compounds (alpha-Sb2Te3 and SnTe) above 7 GPa. The internal polyhedral compressibility, the behavior of the Raman-active modes, the electrical behavior, and the nature of its different bonds under compression have been discussed and compared with their parent binary…
PHASE TRANSITIONS IN Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3-PbTiO3 SOLID SOLUTIONS
2009
ABSTRACT Studies of nature of polarization in ternary solid solutions of Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3-PbTiO3 were done, using measurements of dielectric properties and polarization hysteresis loops. Various stages of relaxor behavior depending on concentration of PbTiO3 were established and compared with other known ferroelectric relaxors.
Dielectric nonlinearity of the PBB′B″O3 ferroelectric solid solutions
2001
Abstract Obtaining of novel thin film materials for electrically tuneable capacities is one of the current problems of ferroelectric material application. Suitable ferroelectric compounds exhibiting broad phase transitions and small dielectric loss in the paraelectric phase have been searched for the purpose. Lead-containing niobates PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 (PMN), PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3 (PNN) and PbZn1/3Nb2/3O3 (PZN) and their solid solutions have been found as most appropriate. Materials have been synthesized by solid phase reactions from the relevant oxides; ceramic samples were obtained by conventional ceramic technology. Results of the studies of thermal dependence of dielectric permeability and loss fa…
ABC and BAC triblock copolymers - morphological engineering by variation of the block sequence
1997
Different morphologies and phase transitions of ternary triblock copolymers with different block sequences (ABC and BAC) are discussed qualitatively. The interplay between interfacial energies and elastic energies of the different blocks leads to various morphologies and enhances or prevents mixing of different blocks, depending on composition and topology.
Abnormal pressure dependence of the phase boundaries in TL/PEO/P(EO-b-DMS) ternary mixtures
2003
The cloud-point temperatures (T-cl's) of both binary poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-poly(ethylene oxide-b-dimethylsiloxane) [P(EO-b-DMS)] and ternary[toluene/PEO/P(EO-b-DMS)] systems were determined by light scattering measurements at atmospheric pressure. The phase separation behavior upon cooling in the ternary system has been investigated at atmospheric pressure and under high pressure and compared to the phase behavior in the binary system. The phase transition temperatures have been obtained for all of the samples. As a result, the pressure induces compatibility in the binary mixtures, but for the ternary system, pressure not only can induce mixing but also can induce phase separation.
Semiempirical Correlation between Optical Band Gap Values of Oxides and the Difference of Electronegativity of the Elements. Its Importance for a Qua…
1997
A semiempirical correlation between the optical band gap of binary oxides and the difference of electronegativity between the oxygen and metallic elements (Pauling's extraionic energy) is proposed. In the frame of the proposed correlation an estimate of the repulsive term in the total lattice energy of ionic oxides is obtained in very good agreement with the existing data. An extension of the correlation to the ternary oxides and hydroxides is proposed by using the concept of average cationic or anionic group electronegativity. The usefulness of the proposed correlation for the in situ characterization of passive films on metals and alloys by photocurrent spectroscopy is illustrated by repo…
Optical, Structural and Paramagnetic Properties of Eu-Doped Ternary Sulfides ALnS2 (A = Na, K, Rb; Ln = La, Gd, Lu, Y)
2015
Eu-doped ternary sulfides of general formula ALnS2 (A = Na, K, Rb; Ln = La, Gd, Lu, Y) are presented as a novel interesting material family which may find usage as X-ray phosphors or solid state white light emitting diode (LED) lighting. Samples were synthesized in the form of transparent crystalline hexagonal platelets by chemical reaction under the flow of hydrogen sulfide. Their physical properties were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and X-ray excited fluorescence. Corresponding characteristics, including absorption, radioluminescence, photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, and decay k…
Low-dimensional non-toxic A 3 Bi 2 X 9 compounds synthesized by a dry mechanochemical route with tunable visible photoluminescence at room temperature
2019
We have synthesized fifteen inorganic and hybrid organic-inorganic non-toxic A3Bi2X9 compounds (A = K+, Rb+, Cs+, CH3NH3+ and HC(NH2)2+; X = I−, Br−, Cl−) through dry mechanochemistry. We demonstrate that this synthetic method is very well suited to prepare compounds from poorly soluble precursors, allowing thus the preparation of so far unreported compounds. X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrates the high crystallinity of the so-formed ternary bismuth halides. Furthermore, we show that, through substitution of the A-cation and X-anion, the bandgap of these compounds can be tuned to absorb throughout the whole visible spectrum. As-prepared powders of Cs3Bi2Br9 and Cs3Bi2I9 without any pass…
