Abstract The fundamental role played by the quantum repulsive Nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation in the evolution of our understanding of the phenomenon of superconductivity in appropriate metals at very low temperatures is surveyed. The first major work was that in 1947 by N. N. Bogoliubov, who studied the very physical 3-space-dimensions problem and super fluidity; and the survey takes the form of an actual dedication to that outstanding scientist who died four years ago. The 3-space-dimensions NLS equation is not integrable either classically or quantum mechanically. Steering distillation processes through quantum Zeno dynamics

A quantum system in interaction with a repeatedly measured one undergoes a nonunitary time evolution and is pushed into a subspace substantially determined by the two-system coupling. The possibility of suitably modifying such an evolution through quantum Zeno dynamics (i.e., the generalized quantum Zeno effect) addressing the system toward an a priori decided target subspace is illustrated. Applications and their possible realizations in the context of trapped ions are also discussed.

Statistical performance of a multiclass bulk production queueing system

Abstract In this paper, we discuss how to statistically analyze a make-to-stock production system the behaviour of which depends on a multiclass bulk queueing system. The performance of the system is evaluated in terms of the different demands of products, processing times and, mainly, through the finished product inventory and other related measures that quantify the queueing effects in the system. A numerical example which illustrates the applicability of the results in an inventory scenario is also discussed.

This paper compares three approaches of the unit root testing strategy issue : i.e. the DICKEY, BELL and MILLER (1986) approach, elaborated for prevision purposes, which advocates the estimation of a model without trend at the outset, in opposition to the PERRON (1988) and HENIN and JOBERT (1990) testing strategies. The latter is undoubtedly operational in empirical works but it doesn’t encompass joint tests explicitly. Temperature-dependent angular resolved UV-photoemission spectroscopy from CeNi2Ge2

Abstract Pronounced temperature effects in angular resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy from the (001) surface of the ternary heavy fermion compound CeNi 2 Ge 2 are presented. The measurements were performed on atomically clean and well-ordered thin films grown on a W(110) substrate. A strongly enhanced intensity at the Fermi edge ( ϵ F ) is observed at low-temperatures if the spectra are excited by means of HeI light ( hν =21.2 eV). In addition, the work function is dramatically increased with temperature, exhibiting an unusually high positive temperature coefficient of about 0.65 meV/K. Evaluation of routing policies using an interval-valued TOPSIS approach for the allocation rules

Abstract The success of warehouse management in a supply chain widely depends on an efficient and effective retrieve of customer orders, which is known as the picking process. This paper investigates various routing policies of pickers under two different allocation methods of items in a warehouse of fixed layout, and evaluates their performance in terms of the resulting travel distance by means of a simulation approach. Use of Reinforcement Learning in Two Real Applications

In this paper, we present two sucessful applications of Reinforcement Learning (RL) in real life. First, the optimization of anemia management in patients undergoing Chronic Renal Failure is presented. The aim is to individualize the treatment (Erythropoietin dosages) in order to stabilize patients within a targeted range of Hemoglobin (Hb). Results show that the use of RL increases the ratio of patients within the desired range of Hb. Thus, patients' quality of life is increased, and additionally, Health Care System reduces its expenses in anemia management.
