Constrained control of a nonlinear two point boundary value problem, I

1994

In this paper we consider an optimal control problem for a nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation with integral constraints. A necessary optimality condition in form of the Pontryagin minimum principle is derived. The proof is based on McShane-variations of the optimal control, a thorough study of their behaviour in dependence of some denning parameters, a generalized Green formula for second order ordinary differential equations with measurable coefficients and certain tools of convex analysis.

Convex Duality in Stochastic Optimization and Mathematical Finance

2011

This paper proposes a general duality framework for the problem of minimizing a convex integral functional over a space of stochastic processes adapted to a given filtration. The framework unifies many well-known duality frameworks from operations research and mathematical finance. The unification allows the extension of some useful techniques from these two fields to a much wider class of problems. In particular, combining certain finite-dimensional techniques from convex analysis with measure theoretic techniques from mathematical finance, we are able to close the duality gap in some situations where traditional topological arguments fail.

The project scheduling polyhedron: Dimension, facets and lifting theorems

1993

Abstract The Project scheduling with resource constraints can be formulated as follows: given a graph G with node set N, a set H of directed arcs corresponding to precedence relations, and a set H′ of disjunctive arcs reflecting the resource incompatibilities, find among the subsets of H′ satisfying the resource constraints the set S that minimizes the longest path in graph (N, H ∪ S). We define the project scheduling polyhedron Qs as the convex hull of the feasible solutions. We investigate several classes of inequalities with respect to their facet-defining properties for the associated polyhedron. The dimension of Qs is calculated and several inequalities are shown to define facets. For …

Mediterranean systems of intermunicipal cooperation: the Valencian municipal associations and French communautés

2017

Arts. 34-40 EIR

2016

The comments on Arts. 34-40 of EU Regulation 2015/848 deal with opening of secondary insolvency proceedings. These comments systematically tackle the prerequisites required for the opening of secondary insolvency proceedings, the relationship between main and secondary proceedings and the duties of cooperation that are put on the courts and the insolvency practitioners of both main and secondary proceedings. A particular attention is devoted to the introduction of the so-called “Undertaking to Avoid the Opening of Secondary Insolvency Proceedings” (Art. 36).

Comparison of different cooperation strategies in the prey-predator problem

2006

The paper describes two cooperating strategies among several homogeneous agents to reach a given target. In our case we used the prey-predators paradigm in which a set of agents (predators) have the purpose to reach a target (prey). The problem is addressed as an optimization problem that has been faced with two different algorithms (a genetic algorithm and a particle swam optimization algorithm). The two approaches are evaluated by using a simulator for each strategy and the results show that the strategies are very different in terms of prey-predator successes. Genetic algorithm can be used by the prey to solve at the best the problem to reach the lair, otherwise the Particle Swarm Optimi…

Cooperation and innovation in Italian agribusiness between theoretical analysis and empirical evidence

2022

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all economic sectors. The agri-food sector has also suffered very clear effects, especially in those production contexts char-acterized by corporate atomization, lack of cooperation, and innovation. An agrifood system, characterized by low levels of innovation and dependence on foreign countries for many raw materials and foodstuffs, must necessarily recover margins of competitiveness if it is to reverse course. This study analyses the current production scenario of the Italian agri-food industry and suggests strategies to recover margins of competitiveness. The study reveals a weak agricultural sector, while the food industry and distribution are highly c…
