An Optical Technique for Springback Measurement in Axisymmetrical Deep Drawing Operations
2001
Abstract In this paper, a measurement technique based on the shadow moire method has been set up to evaluate the springback phenomenon in deep drawing operations. Two proper coefficients are introduced to quantitatively describe the investigated effect. In particular, the proposed technique is able to acquire the final profile of the drawn parts along one or more lateral contour, once extracted out from the dies, and compare such profile with the ideal one derived from the dies CAD geometry. The proposed technique has been applied to an axisymmetrical deep drawing operation, and, moreover, the influence of the blankholder force level and lubricating conditions has been taken into account. T…
Further Developments and Tests of a Progressive Algorithm for Multiple Criteria Decision Making
1993
P. Korhonen, H. Moskowitz, and J. Wallenius (1986) developed a progressive algorithm and the supporting theory for modeling and solving multiple criteria decision problems with discrete alternatives. A special feature of the algorithm is that it relaxes the usual assumption of a fixed set of available decision alternatives and complete knowledge of a decision maker's (DM's) preference structure or value function. The algorithm is based on progressively sampling the decision space, obtaining preference information from the DM, determining the likelihood of finding possibly/surely better alternatives, and based on this information, continuing the search or terminating it by making the final …
Helicopter operations: the environmental impact and ground facilities. Procedures and operational standards for the system’s acceptance.
2012
The link between the heliports, environmental quality and safety is an important challenge in the field of helicopter transport. This challenge is especially crucial when the helicopter operations are carried out on densely urbanized areas. Often these areas have significant constraints and obstacles, particularly in terms of noise pollution. These constraints make the approach/takeoff maneuvers very complicated. The theme of the environmental sustainability of the rotorcraft is strongly felt in many countries. The production of noise is subjected to numerous rules and procedures, which tend to improve the acceptability of the helicopter by residents in neighboring areas to verti/heliports.…
Experimental Comparison of Type-1 and Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controllers for the Control of Level and Temperature in a Vessel
2011
Abstract The objective of this experimental study is to compare the performance of type-1 and type-2 fuzzy logic controllers on a real system where the control of liquid level and temperature are considered. By the use of genetic algorithms it is possible to optimize the fuzzy sets of each fuzzy controller assuring high control performance. The experimental results show that a better control in terms of robustness can be achieved by type-2 fuzzy logic controllers.
Economic impact of Ice Thermal Energy Storage Systems in residential buildings in presence of double-tariffs contracts for electricity
2009
Thermal energy storage is one of the most important methods of demand-side load management, thanks to the capacity of reducing significantly the peak power demand for air conditioning in buildings. Thermal Energy Storage Systems (TESS) are indeed used for producing and storing cooling capacity during off-peak hours (in particular during night hours) to meet the following day's air conditioning requirements. The current paper presents a study on the effects of the installation of Ice TESS for cooling on the power daily profile of residential buildings, and examines the economic repercussions on the electricity billing. With reference to this second theme, the paper examines, in particular, t…
How firms are using networking decisions to achieve strategic objectives: Building theories from four case studies
2011
Many research studies in OM literature have investigated how different kinds of focal firm decisions regarding business vertical relationships (i.e. with both suppliers and buyers) can positively affect firm’s operations performance and thus improve its competitive position. In this paper we extend this genre of study by also considering business horizontal relationships (i.e with competitors and firms that own complementary capabilities) and by considering the impact of business relationships not only on focal firm’s operations performance but also on its resources endowment. We present four cases that describe what are the strategic manager intents (in term of operations performance and r…
The reconciliation process of market requirements and operations resources – an empirical view
2018
Firms are confronted with the challenge of designing strategy processes, which guide decision-making in a way that leads to high and sustainable performance. The purpose of this paper is to address this challenge, by delivering empirical insights on Slack & Lewis’ concept of reconciliation in Operations Strategy from a process point-of-view. We argue that while this concept roots in the alignment literature of Operations Strategy it has not yet been subject to detailed and empirical research. We discuss the development of a survey that examines if and how reconciliation is carried out in companies and how this affects operations performance.
BioAnalysis: A Framework for Structural and Functional Robustness Analysis of Metabolic Networks
2010
The main objective of this work is to analyze metabolic networks evolution in terms of their robustness and fault tolerance capabilities. In metabolic networks, errors can be seen as random removal of network nodes, while attacks are high-connectivity-degree node deletion aimed at compromising network activity. This paper proposes a software framework, namely BioAnalysis, used to test the robustness and the fault tolerance capabilities of real metabolic networks, when mutations and node deletions affect the network structure. The performed simulations are related to the central metabolic network of the well-known E. coli single-celled bacterium and involve either hub nodes or non-hub nodes,…
Social-Behavioral Aware Optimization of Energy Consumption in Smart Homes
2018
Residential energy consumption is skyrocketing, as residential customers in the U.S. alone used 1.4 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2014 and the consumption is expected to increase in the next years. Previous efforts to limit such consumption have included demand response and smart residential environments. However, recent research has shown that such approaches can actually increase the overall energy consumption due to the numerous complex human psychological processes that take place when interacting with electrical appliances. In this paper we propose a social-behavioral aware framework for energy management in smart residential environments. We envision a smart home where appliances are int…
Ancora sulle "esplosive palatali" nelle inchieste dell'Atlante Linguistico del Mediterraneo (ALM): i punti albanesi
2021
