Suprachoroidal Bleeding After XEN Gel Implantation

2017

Purpose To report for the first time a clinical case of suprachoroidal bleeding after XEN45 gel implantation. Observations A 84-year old female patient with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma with intraocular pressure (IOP) (20 mm Hg) above target despite maximal IOP-lowering therapy was scheduled for XEN45 gel implantation. The XEN45 gel implantation went without complications and was properly placed in the anterior chamber and beneath the conjunctiva. On the first postoperative day, the patient presented with an IOP of 4 mm Hg, a functioning bleb and a deep anterior chamber. On the second day she developed suprachoroidal bleeding. A wait and see strategy was followed and the patient monitored ste…

Noninvasive evaluation of the celiac trunk and superior mesenteric artery with multislice CT in patients with chronic mesenteric ischaemia.

2008

This study sought to assess the role of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) in patients with suspected chronic mesenteric ischaemia (CMI). Forty-five patients (29 men; mean age 68) underwent MSCT angiography of the abdomen for suspected CMI (main clinical finding: postprandial abdominal pain). The scan protocol was detectors/collimation 16/0.75 mm; feed 36 mm/s; rotation time 500 ms; increment 0.4 mm; 120-150 mAs and 120 kVp. A volume of 80 ml of contrast material was administered through an antecubital vein (rate 4 ml/s), followed by 40 ml of saline (rate 4 ml/s). Images were analysed on the workstation with different algorithms (axial image scrolling, multiplanar reconstructions, maximu…

Alterations in Circulating miRNA Levels following Early-Stage Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer Resection in Post-Menopausal Women

2014

INTRODUCTION: Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) exhibit remarkable stability and may serve as biomarkers in several clinical cancer settings. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in the levels of specific circulating miRNA following breast cancer surgery and evaluate whether these alterations were also observed in an independent data set.METHODS: Global miRNA analysis was performed on prospectively collected serum samples from 24 post-menopausal women with estrogen receptor-positive early-stage breast cancer before surgery and 3 weeks after tumor resection using global LNA-based quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR).RESULTS: Numbers of specific miRNAs detected in the samples ranged fro…

Influence of smoking upon the postoperative course of lower third molar surgery

2006

Our objective was to determine whether smoking influences the postoperative course (pain and trismus) of lower third molar surgery, with a clinical evaluation of surgical wound condition and analysis of the possible differences between smokers and nonsmokers. The study subjects were randomly distributed into two groups (smokers and nonsmokers) and subjected to lower third molar extraction in the Unit of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Madrid Complutense University, Spain). The study variables were trismus after 7 days, the intensity of pain and the need for rescue medication during a period of one week. The surgical wound was also assessed (color, presence of plaque, etc.). Two cases of pos…

Ascorbic acid content and transcriptional profiling of genes involved in its metabolism during development of petals, leaves, and fruits of orange (C…

2021

Citrus fruit is one of the most important contributors to the ascorbic acid (AsA) intake in humans. Here, we report a comparative analysis of AsA content and transcriptional changes of genes related to its metabolism during development of petals, leaves and fruits of Valencia Late oranges (Citrus sinensis). Petals of close flowers and at anthesis contained the highest concentration of AsA. In fruits, AsA content in the flavedo reached a maximum at color break, whereas the pulp accumulated lower levels and experienced minor fluctuations during development. AsA levels in leaves were similar to those in the flavedo at breaker stage. The transcriptional profiling of AsA biosynthetic, degradatio…

Control of kinetics by cooperative interactions.

2011

Cooperative effects in ligand binding and dissociation kinetics are much less investigated than steady state kinetics or equilibrium binding. Nevertheless, cooperativity in ligand binding leads necessarily to characteristic properties with respect to kinetic properties of the system. In case of positive cooperativity as found in oxygen binding proteins, a typical property is an autocatalytic ligand dissociation behavior leading to a time dependent, apparent ligand dissociation rate. To follow systematically the influence of the various potentially involved parameters on this characteristic property, simulations based on the simple MWC model were performed which should be relevant for all ty…

ASCO-Update 2015 – Neuigkeiten vom 51. Meeting der American Society of Clinical Oncology/ASCO 2015

2016

The field of gastrointestinal oncology is rapidly developing, on the one hand through the identification of novel molecular targets and therapeutic principles, on the other hand through the establishment and improvement of multidisciplinary treatment strategies. The following manuscript summarizes the most important trial results of the ASCO Meeting 2015 for gastrointestinal cancers. Besides trials on perioperative treatment of esophageal-, pancreatic- and colon cancer, we will present impressive data on new therapeutic strategies such as immunotherapy in gastric-, liver and microsatellite instable colorectal cancer. The trials will be put into context by the authors.

The prognostic value of skeletal muscle index on clinical and survival outcomes after cytoreduction and HIPEC for peritoneal metastases from colorect…

2021

BACKGROUND Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hypertermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) represent the most effective strategy to manage peritoneal metastases (PM). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of body composition on clinical outcomes in patients with PM. METHODS A systematic literature search was performed using Medline, Web of Science and EMBASE databases from inception to the 20st August 2020. Data were independently extracted by 3 authors. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess quality and risk of bias of studies. Pooled analyses were performed using Mantel-Haenszel method to estimate overall effect size with mean differences or odd ratios (O…
