Finite-Timel1-Gain Control for Positive Switched Systems with Time-Varying Delay via Delta Operator Approach

2014

This paper is concerned with the problem of finite-timel1-gain control for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach. Firstly, sufficient conditions which can guarantee thel1-gain finite-time boundedness of the underlying system are given by using the average dwell time approach and constructing an appropriate copositive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional in delta domain. Moreover, the obtained conditions can unify some previously suggested relevant results seen in literature of both continuous and discrete systems into the delta operator framework. Then, based on the results obtained, a state feedback controller is designed to ensure that the resulting …

Robust H∞ reliable control for delta operator switched systems with time-varying delays under asynchronous switching

2014

The problem of robust H∞ reliable control for a class of delta operator switched systems with time-varying delays and actuator faults under asynchronous switching is considered in this paper. Asynchronous switching means that the switches between the candidate controllers and system modes are asynchronous. Based on the average dwell time approach and delta operator theory, a state feedback controller is designed such that the closed-loop system is exponentially stable with H∞ performance in the presence of actuator faults. The obtained results are formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate explicitly the feasibility …

Stability and -Gain Control of Positive Switched Systems with Time-Varying Delays via Delta Operator Approach

2013

This paper investigates the problems of stability and -gain controller design for positive switched systems with time-varying delays via delta operator approach. The purpose is to design a switching signal and a state feedback controller such that the resulting closed-loop system is exponentially stable with -gain performance. Based on the average dwell time approach, a sufficient condition for the existence of an -gain controller for the considered system is established by constructing an appropriate copositive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional in delta domain. Moreover, the obtained conditions can unify some previously suggested relevant methods in the literature of both continuous- and…

Time operators, innovations and approximations

2003

Abstract We present a new approach to the spectral analysis and prediction of such complex systems for which the time evolution is described by a semigroup of operators. This approach is based on an extended concept of time operator and can be interpreted as a shift representation of dynamical systems. The time operator method includes the multiresolution analysis of wavelets as a particular case but can also be applied for a substantially larger class of dynamical systems. Among the examples where shift representation have been explicitly derived are exact endomorphisms, the diffusion equation, generalized shifts associated with the Haar or Faber–Schauder basis and some classes of stochast…

More firms, more competition? The case of the fourth operator in France's mobile phone market

2010

Accepted, Forthcoming; International audience; To foster competition the French government authorized a fourth operator, ‘Free', to enter the country's mobile phone market at the end of 2009 alongside Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom (BT), who held respectively one-half, one-third and one-sixth of the market. By using a stylized model of France's phone market, we have examined what we call the regulator's nightmares and dreams. If Cournot competition is in place before Free's entry, minimizing the total profit fails to maximize the consumer surplus and the total surplus; the maximum most realistic price fall is 6.7% compared to three-way competition and could be 1.7% only; if Orange, SFR an…

Optimising the efficiency of olive harvesting considering operator safety

2019

Mechanical-assisted harvesting of olives, which is carried out using hand-held harvesting units that detach the drupes through vibration supplied by electric motor or combustion engines, is a widespread method used in southern Italy. Such machines are able to harvest more than 80% of the overall quantity of olives available per tree in 5–10 min, but their performance is influenced by several factors related to the mechanical characteristics of the device and to the features of the trees. Here the problem of optimising harvesting efficiency whilst minimising the health risks to the operators is investigated, with the aim of demonstrating that it is possible to determine an optimum harvesting…

Vacuum induced berry phase: Theory and experimental proposal

2003

We investigate quantum effects in geometric phases arising when a two-level system is interacting with a quantized electromagnetic field. When the system is adiabatically driven along a closed loop in the parameter space, signatures of the field quantization are observable in the geometric phase. We propose a feasible experiment to measure these effects in cavity QED and also analyse the semi-classical limit, recovering the usual Berry phase results.

Nonlocal properties of entangled two-photon generalized binomial states in two separate cavities

2007

We consider entangled two-photon generalized binomial states of the electromagnetic field in two separate cavities. The nonlocal properties of this entangled field state are analyzed by studying the electric field correlations between the two cavities. A Bell's inequality violation is obtained using an appropriate dichotomic cavity operator, that is in principle measurable.

The composite operator method route to the 2D Hubbard model and the cuprates

2018

In this review paper, we illustrate a possible route to obtain a reliable solution of the 2D Hubbard model and an explanation for some of the unconventional behaviours of underdoped high-$T_\text{c}$ cuprate superconductors within the framework of the composite operator method. The latter is described exhaustively in its fundamental philosophy, various ingredients and robust machinery to clarify the reasons behind its successful applications to many diverse strongly correlated systems, controversial phenomenologies and puzzling materials.
