Tiotropium - ein langwirksames, inhalatives Anticholinergikum zur Therapie der chronisch-obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD)
2003
Anticholinergics are agents of first choice for the symptomatic treatment of patients with COPD. Tiotropium (Ba 679 BR, Spiriva) is a long-acting inhaled anticholinergic designed for once-daily bronchodilator treatment of COPD. Tiotropium is a selective antagonist of pulmonary M1 and M3 muscarinic receptor subtypes, that produces a long-lasting (24 hours), dose-dependent bronchodilation and bronchoprotection against constrictive stimuli, e. g. methacholine, following inhalation of single doses. Clinical trials with tiotropium in COPD patients over a maximum treatment duration of one year have confirmed a persisting bronchodilator effect of tiotropium compared with placebo and ipratropium, a…
Europium(III)-doped A(2)Hf(2)O(7) (A = Y, Gd, Lu) nanoparticles: Influence of annealing temperature, europium(III) concentration and host cation on t…
2016
The detailed analyses of structure and luminescence of europium(III)-doped A(2)Hf(2)O(7) (A = Y, Gd, Lu) nanoparticles is presented. Samples were prepared by time and cost effective combustion method that utilize polyethylene glycol both as a chelating agent and as a fuel, with different europium(III) concentrations (from 1 to 12 at.%), annealed at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1400 degrees C, and with alternating A(3+) cation in the A(2)Hf(2)O(7) host. Then, structural variations between materials were analysed by Xray diffraction and structural refinement, while the changes in the luminescence were assessed from the Judd-Ofelt analyses of emission spectra. Nanoparticles prepared at the…

Efficacy and safety of indacaterol and tiotropium in COPD patients according to dyspnoea severity.
2013
Background Guidelines for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) recommend that treatment choices be based partly on symptoms. Methods A post-hoc analysis of pooled data from clinical studies compared the efficacy and safety of once-daily inhaled bronchodilators indacaterol (150 and 300 μg) and open-label tiotropium (18 μg) according to baseline dyspnoea severity on the modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) scale in patients with COPD (mMRC scores <2 = ‘less dyspnoea’; scores ≥2 = ‘more dyspnoea’). Outcomes were assessed after 26 weeks. Results The analysis included 3177 patients. In patients with less dyspnoea: indacaterol (both doses) improved 24-h post-dose (‘trough’) forced exp…
Effect of QVA149 on lung volumes and exercise tolerance in COPD patients: The BRIGHT study
2014
Summary Introduction QVA149 is a novel, inhaled, once-daily dual bronchodilator containing a fixed-dose combination of the long-acting β 2 -agonist indacaterol and the long-acting muscarinic antagonist glycopyrronium (NVA237), for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study evaluated the effects of QVA149 on exercise tolerance, hyperinflation, lung function and lung volumes versus placebo and tiotropium. Methods Patients with moderate-to-severe COPD were randomized to QVA149 110/50 μg, placebo or tiotropium 18 μg once daily in a blinded, 3-period crossover study for 3 weeks. The primary endpoint was exercise endurance time at Day 21 for QVA149 versus placebo. R…
Capillary electrophoresis–inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry hyphenation for the determination at the nanogram scale of metal affinities an…
2012
Abstract A screening strategy based on hyphenated capillary electrophoresis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CE–ICP-MS) was developed to classify phosphorylated ligands according to their europium(III) binding affinity in a hydro-organic medium (sodium formate, pH 3.7, H2O/MeOH 90:10, v/v). Taking advantage of the high sensibility of ICP-MS for detecting phosphorus, this method enabled to assess the affinity of a variety of phosphorylated compounds, including phosphine oxides, thiophosphines, phosphonates, and phosphinates, in less than 1 h and using less than 5 ng of substance. By varying the total europium concentration, complexation constants could be determined accordin…
Oxygen influence on luminescence properties of rare-earth doped NaLaF 4
2016
Abstract Luminescence properties of erbium and europium doped NaLaF4 with different oxygen content have been studied. Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation luminescence spectroscopy technique has been applied by using synchrotron radiation excitation. It was found that oxygen impurity leads to significant degradation of Er3+ or Eu3+ emission under VUV excitation. The intensive O2−–Er3+ charge transfer excitation band has been detected from oxygen abundant NaLaF4 in the 150–165 nm spectral range. This band reveals a competing absorption mechanism in oxygen containing NaLaF4. It is clearly demonstrated that one reason for the Er3+ emission degradation in oxygen abundant NaLaF4 is strong suppres…
Coordination Chemistry in the Solid: Evidence for Coordination Modes within Hybrid Materials Different from those in Solution
2002
Two routes of incorporation of europium(III) salts into cyclam-containing hybrid materials have been explored, to elucidate the coordination mode of EuIII in cyclam-containing hybrid materials in a study of the arrangement of cyclam moieties during the solgel process. They were 1) complexation of europium salts by N-tetrasubstituted 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (cyclam) derivatives bearing four hydrolysable Si(OEt)3 groups, followed by hydrolysis and polycondensation of these complexes; and 2) hydrolysis and polycondensation of N-tetrasubstituted silylated cyclam derivatives, then incorporation of europium salts directly into the hybrid materials. The coordination mode of europium salt…
Electron paramagnetic resonance and photoluminescence investigation of europium local structure in oxyfluoride glass ceramics containing SrF2 nanocry…
2017
Different compositions of europium doped aluminosilicate oxyfluoride glass ceramics prepared in air atmosphere have been studied by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical spectroscopy methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements show presence of homogenously distributed SrF2 nanocrystals after the heat treatment of the precursor glass. Efficient Eu3+ incorporation in the high symmetry environment of glass ceramics is observed from the photoluminescence spectra. EPR spectra indicate Eu3+ → Eu2+ reduction upon precipitation of crystalline phases in the glass matrix. For composition abundant with Eu2+ in the glassy state such behaviour is …
Verwey-type transition in EuNiP
2006
High temperature 151Eu Mossbauer measurements provide proof for inhomogeneous mixed-valent behaviour in EuNiP. We observed that EuNiP undergoes a Verwey-type charge delocalisation transition when heated above 470 K prior to the structural γ-β phase transition at T ≈ 510 K. This finding confirms the results of photoemission spectroscopy in the isostructural compound EuPdP and of TB-LMTO-ASA band structure calculations. We discuss the role of a van Hove singularity associated with a high density of 4f states close to the Fermi energy in inhomogeneous mixed europium valency, and the microscopic mechanism of γ-β phase transition in compounds analogous to EuNiP.
