Near‐IR Radiation‐Induced Attenuation of Aluminosilicate Optical Fibers
2021
The X-ray radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) growth kinetics are studied online in different single-mode aluminosilicate optical fibers in the near-IR (NIR) domain to evaluate their potential in terms of dosimetry. The optical fibers differ by Al contents, core sizes, drawing parameters, and also by a preform deposition process. The data show no dependence of the RIA on all these parameters, a positive result for the design of point or distributed radiation detectors exploiting RIA to monitor the dose. The RIA growth rate is unchanged for dose rates changing from 0.073 to 6.25 Gy(SiO2) s−1, and the RIA linearly increases with the dose up to 2 kGy(SiO2). Small but noticeable RIA changes are…
Even harmonic pulse train generation by cross-polarization-modulation seeded instability in optical fibers
2012
International audience; We show that, by properly adjusting the relative state of polarization of the pump and of a weak modulation, with a frequency such that at least one of its even harmonics falls within the band of modulation instability, one obtains a fully modulated wave at the second or higher even harmonic of the initial modulation. An application of this principle to the generation of a 80-GHz optical pulse train with high extinction ratio from a 40-GHz weakly modulated pump is experimentally demonstrated using a nonzero dispersion shifted fiber in the telecom C band.
Signal processing in photonic crystals and nanostructures
2006
International audience; Optical devices employing photonic crystals and novel nanostructure materials may exhibit useful properties for applications to all-optical signal processing. In this work we analyze as a first example four-wave mixing of polarized beams in photonic crystal fibers. We show that by properly tuning the pump wavelength and the linear dispersion properties of the fiber one may obtain broadband parametric amplification and frequency conversion. Next we consider the in-line periodic amplification of short optical pulses by means of quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers. We show by numerical simulations that pattern-free amplification of a 40 Gbit/s soliton signal at…

Optical flow estimation from multichannel spherical image decomposition
2011
International audience; The problem of optical flow estimation is largely discussed in computer vision domain for perspective images. It was also proven that, in terms of optical flow analysis from these images, we have difficulty distinguishing between some motion fields obtained with little camera motion. The omnidirectional cameras provided images with large filed of view. These images contain global information about motion and allow to remove the ambiguity present in perspective case. Nevertheless, these images contain significant radial distortions that is necessary to take into account when treating these images to estimate the motion. In this paper, we shall describe new way to comp…

Chemical Transfers Occurring Through
2019
Chardonnay wine malolactic fermentations were carried out to evaluate the chemical transfers occurring at the wood/wine interface in the presence of two different bacterial lifestyles. To do this, Oenococcus oeni was inoculated into must and wine in its planktonic and biofilm lifestyles, whether adhering or not to oak chips, leading to three distinct enological conditions: (i) post-alcoholic fermentation inoculation in wine in the absence of oak chips, (ii) post-alcoholic fermentation inoculation in wine in the presence of oak chips, and (iii) co-inoculation of both Saccharomyces cerevisiae and O. oeni directly in Chardonnay musts in the presence of oak chips. Classical microbiological and …
Internal conversion from excited electronic states of 229Th ions
2017
The process of internal conversion from excited electronic states is investigated theoretically for the case of the vacuum-ultraviolet nuclear transition of 229 Th . Due to the very low transition energy, the 229 Th nucleus offers the unique possibility to open the otherwise forbidden internal conversion nuclear decay channel for thorium ions via optical laser excitation of the electronic shell. We show that this feature can be exploited to investigate the isomeric state properties via observation of internal conversion from excited electronic configurations of Th + and Th 2 + ions. A possible experimental realization of the proposed scenario at the nuclear laser spectroscopy facility IGISO…
New advances in high-resolution optical microscopy
2015
