Accurate tuning of mismatched twin-core fiber filters

We have demonstrated a reproducible and accurate way of tuning the coupling wavelength of a mismatched twin-core filter. This method allows high quality all-fiber filters to be implemented with low loss at any desired wavelength over a range of few hundred nanometers from the same fiber. An ~500-nm tuning range is demonstrated, limited only by the measurement setup and not by the technique itself. Highly accurate control of the filtering wavelength in combination with control of filtering strength by adjustment of the length of the twin-core fibers allows complex filter profiles to be implemented by cascading of several different filters. Reinforced concrete (RC) jacketing is becoming increasingly common among the different retrofit techniques for poor RC members, due to its economical and practical advantages. Experimental investigations in the literature have shown that the actual axial capacity of RC jacketed members can be substantially lower than that analytically evaluated by adapting the most common theoretical models for confined concrete. A review of colour center and nanostructure creation in LiF under heavy ion irradiation

A study of radiation damage in LiF crystals under irradiation with MeV–GeV energy ions, from 12C to 238U, at temperatures varying from 8 to 300 K, depending on the ion energy, energy loss and irradiation temperature, is presented. For light ions (12C, 14N) at low fluences, it is mainly color centers that are created. Increasing the fluence leads to the overlapping of tracks and the creation of more complex color centers, defect aggregates and dislocations. For ions with an energy loss above a threshold value (dE/dx = 10 keV nm−1) the tracks exhibit a central core damage region with a radius of 1–2 nm, surrounded by an extended halo which mainly contains single color centers. Electro-optic dynamics in thermally poled Ge core doped silica fibre

The electro-optic (EO) dynamics of a twin hole germania core doped fibre when an applied electric field at elevated temperature modifies the symmetry of glass is reported. An EO peak was recorded after 10 min poling. The results were interpreted with a two-space charge model.

Supercontinuum generation with 532 nm quasi-continuum pulses in photonic crystal fibre tapers

We report experimental results on supercontinuum generation in PCF tapers using quasi-continuous pump pulses of 7 ns duration at 532 nm. SC generation in normal and anomalous dispersion regimes are presented. Introduction Supercontinuum generation (SC) in photonic crystal fibres (PCF), fibre tapers, and PCF tapers has been demonstrated in the past with pump pulses of fs, ps, and tenths of ns duration [1-2]. Interaction strength and shape difference for the h9/2 and h11/2 configurations in163Tm

The strongly shape driving πh9/2[541]l/2− configuration with α=+1/2 exhibits some anomalous, and so far unexplained, features concerning the crossing frequency, ħωc, the aligned angular momentum, ix, and interaction strength, at the alignment of the first pair of i13/2 quasineutrons in several odd-Z rare earth-nuclei. The h9/2[541]1/2− and h11/2[523]7/2− bands have been studied in the stably deformed rare-earth nucleus163Tm to investigate these features. A difference in band crossing frequency of ∼ 80 keV between the two bands is found. Rotational bands built on these two configurations have been found to cross in the spin range I=25/2–29/2 ħ.
