Optical polarization of nuclear ensembles in diamond

We report polarization of a dense nuclear-spin ensemble in diamond and its dependence on magnetic field and temperature. The polarization method is based on the transfer of electron spin polarization of negatively charged nitrogen vacancy color centers to the nuclear spins via the excited-state level anti-crossing of the center. We polarize 90% of the 14N nuclear spins within the NV centers, and 70% of the proximal 13C nuclear spins with hyperfine interaction strength of 13-14 MHz. This project aims to develop solid-state gyroscopes based on ensembles of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond [1], [2]. The NV center is a defect formed in diamond by one substitutional nitrogen atom and an adjacent vacancy. The NV- center features a ground state with electronic spin $\mathrm{S}=1$ , which can be initialized, manipulated, and detected via convenient optical, microwave and radiofrequency transitions (Fig. 1). Complete nonlinear polarization control in an optical fiber system.

International audience; We consider the counterpropagating interaction of a signal and a pump beam in an isotropic optical fiber. On the basis of recently developed mathematical techniques, we show that an arbitrary state of polarization of the signal beam can be converted into any other desired state of polarization. On the other hand, an unpolarized signal beam may be repolarized into two specific states of polarization, without loss of energy. Both processes of repolarization and polarization conversion may be controlled by adjusting the polarization state of the backward pump.
Modal attraction on low order modes by Kerr effect in a graded refractive index multimode fiber

Modal attraction towards low order modes in a GRIN multimode fiber was experimentally observed at high power and characterized, thus enriching the dynamics of the Kerr self-cleaning effect leading to quasi fundamental mode generation.
All-optical control and stabilization of the polarization state of a 10-Gbit/s RZ telecommunication signal

International audience; We report the experimental observation of an all-fibered polarization attractor at telecommunication wavelengths. We experimentally show that is possible to all-optical control the state of polarization of a 10 Gbit/s telecommunication signal through the injection of a counterpropagating pump wave.
Buffering optical topological data using passive Kerr resonators

We experimentally demonstrate the existence of dissipative polarization domain walls, in a normally dispersive Kerr resonator. Through deterministic manipulation of the laser driving the resonator, we achieve systematic excitation and locking of the domain walls.
Graphical representation of non-absorbing polarization devices

A graphical representation of general non-absorbing polarization devices operating under normal plane-wave incidence is presented. The representation is based on a four-dimensional spherical parametrization of the Jones matrix of this kind of polarization devices. The graphical representation takes the form of a solid cylinder. The projection of the point representing the device over the base of the cylinder gives the corresponding polarization eigenvectors represented in the complex plane, while the height of the point in the cylinder is the phase of its eigenvalue. Using a multiscale expansion of coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations we study the role of map strength and channel spacing for two colliding solitons. We numerically study then the depolarization caused by collisions of dispersion-managed vector solitons.
