Band-to-Band and Band-to-Acceptor Photoluminescence Studies in InSe under Pressure

We report on photoluminescence (PL) measurements under pressure on p-type N-doped InSe at 10 K and on n-type Si-doped InSe at room temperature. Low-temperature PL of N-doped InSe is dominated by a band-to-acceptor peak. From the pressure dependence of the ionization energy of the N related shallow acceptor, the pressure change of the hole effective mass is estimated through the Gerlach-Pollmann model for hydrogenic levels in uniaxial crystals and discussed in the framework of a k p model. Room temperature PL in Si-doped InSe is dominated by a band-to-band peak exhibiting a pressure shift in agreement with previous works. Extinction and optical depth of contrails

[1] One factor limiting the understanding of the climate impact from contrails and aircraft induced cloud modifications is the accurate determination of their optical depth. To this end, 14 contrails were sampled for 2756 s with instruments onboard the research aircraft Falcon during the CONCERT (CONtrail and Cirrus ExpeRimenT) campaign in November 2008. The young (<10 min old) contrails were produced by 9 commercial aircraft with weights of 47 to 508 t, among them the largest operating passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. Existence of two time scales in the phase transitions of BaTiO3

Abstract We report new Raman scattering measurements in the tetragonal phase of a single domain BaTiO3 crystal. Data reveal the occurence of a large quasi elastic scattering. The Raman profile is analysed in terms of coexisting soft phonon and Debye relaxation.

The behavior of the 180° domain walls in disordered dielectrics like KTaO3 : Li and KTaO3 : Nb

We calculate the structure of 180° domain wall in disordered ferroelectrics with random site electric dipoles (i.e. those like K 1-x Li x TaO 3 , KTa 1-x Nb x O 3 , where Li + or Nb 5+ are off-center ions forming impurity dipoles). The calculation is performed on the base of the free energy functional of disordered dielectrics derived earlier [M. D. Glinchuk et al., Phase Transit., 2003 (to be published)] within the framework of a random field method. We obtain the domain wall thickness as a function of impurity dipole concentration n and temperature T. Low-repetition-rate all-polarization maintaining thulium-doped passively modelocked fiber laser

We have developed a passively mode-locked, all-polarization maintaining, low-repetition-rate thulium-doped fiber laser (PM TDFL) emitting at 1951 nm and pumped by an erbium-ytterbium-doped all-fiber laser at 1561 nm. The PM TDFL was developed with a 44.67 m long polarization-maintaining all-fiber resonator Fabry-Perot using a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror at one end and a highly reflective fiber Bragg grating at the other. In this way, transform-limited low-repetition-rate light pulses at 2.3 MHz were generated, with each light pulse having a temporal width of 81 ps, and a spectral width of 50 pm. Optimization of a Sea Wave Energy Harvesting Electromagnetic Device

This paper presents the optimization of a permanent magnet linear generator directly coupled to sea waves. In order to maximize energy extraction, the stochastic features of the energy source is included in the mathematical model of the system in order to satisfactorily tackle the problem. An optimization procedure which includes the stochastic features of the model is presented and a machine built on the basis of the results of this procedure is shown.
