The features of electronics structure of the multichannel scintillation module for the EMMA experiment

2011

A brief description of the developed structural electric diagrams of 16-channel scintillation module for the underground EMMA experiment, the basic characteristics and parameters of the electrical diagrams of this module are presented. Multi-pixel photodiodes operating in a limited Geiger mode are used for photoreadout of the scintillator detectors in 16-channel scintillation module. The method of the automatic tuning of the photosensors gain based on the stabilization of an average counting rate of the scintillation detectors from gamma rays of a natural radioactive background is described. peerReviewed

A signal processing scheme based on high-frequency electromechanical oscillations in nanostructures

2009

We explore the characteristics of a new signal processing scheme based on the high-frequency electromechanical oscillations of a nanostructure formed by an oscillating metallic nanoparticle connected to the left and right electrodes by soft links. Because this system shows resonant behavior when the frequency of the applied electric potential is close to the characteristic natural frequency of the oscillating nanoparticle, a parallel arrangement of nanostructures with different frequencies can be excited selectively by an external time-dependent electrical signal with the appropriate resonant frequencies. The highly nonlinear system response makes it possible to devise a signal processing s…

Demonstration of a Plasmonic MMI Switch in 10-Gb/s True Data Traffic Conditions

2012

International audience; We report the first experimental performance evaluation of a 75-mu m-long plasmonic multimode interference switch that is hetero-integrated on a silicon-on-insulator platform, operating with 10-Gb/s data signals. The switch exhibits a 2.9-mu s response time and 44.5% modulation depth, while the extinction ratio between the ports alters from 5.4 to -1.5 dB for 35-mW electrical (switching) power. Error-free performance was achieved.

Towards high photon-number soft x-ray lasers

2011

We present an experimental design to independently pump two soft X-ray laser media suitable for a seed-amplifier configuration. Both the seed and the amplifier target are operated in the TCE scheme utilizing the DGRIP technique with its intrinsic travelling wave excitation. Controlled injection of the seed X-ray laser into the amplifier medium is realized via a spherical XUV mirror. The experimental design is perfectly appropriate for benchmarking combined simulations of the ARWEN and DeepOne code. A first experiment at the PHELIX laser utilizing this scheme has been conducted, demonstrating signs of amplification and allowing for the direct measurement of the gain life time of a Ni-like si…

Measurements with a hybrid detector prototype composed of a MOS CCD and a CZT spectrometer

2008

The scientific objectives of the future X-ray astronomy instruments require new type of focusing telescopes able to extend the observational range starting from 0.1 keV at least up to 100 keV to solve crucial question concerning the nature of the high energy emission. A challenging technology to extend the classical grazing incidence range to higher energy is today offered by the development of multilayer optics that are effective as X-ray concentrators between few keV up to 100 keV. A useful arrangement for this type of mission concept can foresee the soft (e.g. 0.1-10 keV) X-ray optics nested and coaxial with the hard-X mirrors. The focal plane of the telescope shall operate on a very wid…

Second order diffractive optical elements in a spatial light modulator with large phase dynamic range

2013

International audience; A study of the diffraction efficiency of a spatial light modulator with a large dynamic phase range is reported. We use a phase-only device that reaches 4π phase modulation depth for the wavelength of 454 nm. This allows operating phase-only diffractive optical elements in the second harmonic diffraction order, instead of in the usual first diffraction order. This type of implementation shows advantages in terms of resolution and diffraction efficiency. Experimental results are reported for blazed diffractive gratings and diffractive lenses.

Time-multiplexed chromatic-controlled axial diffractive optical elements

2010

Programmable diffractive optical elements DOEs with axial response have many interesting applications, including diffractive lenses, axicons, and optical tweezers. In all these cases, it is essential to properly select the modulation configuration of the spatial light modulator SLM where the DOE is displayed, in order to avoid the undiffracted zero order component that appears on axis and overlaps the desired axial response. However, in general, the chromatic dispersion in liquid crystal SLMs prevents the cancellation of the zero order for a broadband light source, thus limiting the possibilities for polychromatic program- mable axial DOEs. We operate a ferroelectric liquid crystal on silic…

Fundaments of photoelectric readout of spin states in diamond

2021

Abstract The chapter “Fundaments of photoelectric readout of spin states in diamond” deals with the detection of NV centre spins in diamond using the photoelectric detection of magnetic resonances (PDMR) method, introduced in a series of recent publications. It provides in particular insights into the physics of electronic transitions of the NV center, leading to the free carrier generation, and discusses methodologies how to implement the photocurrent detection principles in the dynamically evolving field of quantum technologies. Recent results on the single electron and the single nuclear spin qubits photoelectric readout are presented, along with a microwave-free NV magnetometry techniqu…
