Generalisation and experimental validation of design rules for self-phase modulation-based 2R regenerators

2007

We report the design of 2R-regenerators based on self-phase modulation in lossy fibers. We experimentally demonstrate the applicability of the proposed scaling rules and present detailed characterization of the pulse characteristics at the regenerator output.

Experimental parabolic pulse generation with an active dispersion decreasing fiber

2008

We experimentally demonstrate the use of an hybrid configuration to generate parabolic pulses. We combine dispersion decrease with distributed gain. This leads to several benefits on the parabolic generated pulses compared with a passive configuration.

Demonstration of polarization pulling in a fiber-optical parametric amplifier

2012

International audience; We report the experimental demonstration of all-optical polarization pulling of an initially polarization-scrambled signal using a fiber-optical parametric amplifier. Nonlinear polarization pulling has been achieved for both the signal and idler with 25 dB gain.

Demonstration of a reef knot microfiber resonator.

2009

We propose a new way to realize a microfiber optical resonator by implementing the topology of a reef knot using two microfibers. We describe how this structure, which includes 4 ports and can serve as an add-drop filter, can be fabricated. Resonances in an all-silica reef knot are measured and good fits are obtained from a simple resonator model. We also show the feasibility of assembling a hybrid silica-chalcogenide reef knot structure.

Impact of structural irregularities on high-bite-rate pulse compression techniques in photonics crystal fibre

2008

International audience; The impact of structural irregularities on high bit rate pulse compression techniques is evaluated in photonic crystal fibre. Specifically, more robust pulse compression to longitudinal fluctuations in the normal dispersion regime is reported. The physical limits of these pulse compression techniques in the presence of dispersion fluctuations are identified and the fact that state-of-the-art fabrication tolerances are sufficient for future experimental applications is confirmed.

Theoretical study of microfiber resonator devices exploiting a phase shift

2008

Phase shifts within microfiber resonators can be exploited to demonstrate compact and fast-responding devices. Two examples, a sensor and a bistable device, where the origins of the phase shift are fundamentally different, are investigated. In the sensor the phase change originates from the change of refractive index of the medium surrounding the microfiber ring. This is a linear mechanism which translates into a change of resonance wavelength. Calculations of a silica microfiber ring immersed in an aqueous solution and operating at a wavelength of 1550 nm show that with a fiber 550 nm in diameter the sensitivity approaches a maximal value of about 1137 nm/RIU. In contrast to the sensitivit…

γ-ray induced GeODC(II) centers in germanium doped α-quartz crystal

2011

International audience; Main luminescence of α-quartz crystal doped with germanium results from the luminescence of a self-trapped exciton (STE) near germanium. In as grown Ge-doped α-quartz crystal, the luminescence associated with the twofold coordinated Ge center (GeODC) in amorphous silica glass doped with germanium, was never observed. In this work, we performed experiments to investigate if a GeODC like luminescence could appear after a γ-irradiation of a Ge-doped α-quartz crystal. The answer is positive: under excitation with pulsed light of an ArF laser (193 nm): a new luminescence with two bands -- a blue one associated to a time constant of about 100 μs appears and another one wit…
