Synthesis of a Tyr3-octreotate conjugated closo-carborane [HC2B10H10]: a potential compound for boron neutron capture therapy

Abstract A novel Tyr 3 -octreotate conjugated closo -carborane as a potential compound for boron neutron capture therapy was obtained via Fmoc solid phase peptide synthesis. The boron cluster [C 2 B 10 H 11 ] was introduced through the reaction of 6,9-bis(acetonitrile)decaborane and 5-hexynoic acid yielding a new closo -carborane conjugated carboxylic acid which was coupled subsequently with solid phase conjugated Tyr 3 -octreotate. The final boron-containing peptide was purified by preparative reverse phase HPLC and structural identity was proved applying MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

SUMMARYThe egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston) (Hymenoptera:Scelionidae) responded to synomones emitted by leguminous plants induced by feeding and oviposition activity of the bug Nezara viridula (L.)(Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). This was shown by laboratory bioassays using a Y-tube olfactometer. Broad bean leaves (Vicia faba L.) damaged by feeding activity of N. viridula and on which host egg mass had been laid produced synomones that attracted T. basalis. By contrast,undamaged leaves or feeding-damaged leaves without eggs did not attract wasp females. Icosahedral carboranes as scaffolds for congested regioselective polyaryl compounds : the distinct distance tuning of C-C and its antipodal B-B

Four-fold aryl substituted o-carborane derivatives with defined patterns of substitution at the antipodal region of the cluster carbon atoms have been achieved. It is proven that this region is congested but lacks steric hindrance. Also, the two antipodal sites Cc-Cc and B9-B12 are affected very distinctly by electron donor substituents. peerReviewed

Cormorant predation mortality of perch (Perca fluviatilis) in coastal and archipelago areas, northern Baltic Sea

Abstract Perch (Perca fluviatilis) is an important prey species of the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) in the coastal waters of the northern Baltic Sea. The annual predation mortality caused by cormorants was estimated based on the consumed numbers of perch in relation to the abundance of perch in vulnerable age groups in the sea.
