La letteratura italiana racconta la caduta del muro di Berlino
2020
The fall of the wall is an event that sets a date and raises a symbolic watershed that separates the before from the after. The essay analyzes the Italian literary texts that were directly confronted with the events of 1989 by reviewing a period of time that goes from the day after the fall of the wall to the present day. From Fortini to Volponi, from Giudici to Arbasino, up to Lagioia, Affinati and Camilleri: for these writers talking about the Berlin Wall means reflecting on the crisis of ideologies, on the contradictions of history, on the relationship between literature and reality.
The impact of self-oxidation on the dosimetric performance of ferrous-sulfate/xylenol-orange gels
2015
Since their introduction in the 1980’s, most of the research on ferrous-sulfate gel dosimeters has aimed at minimizing the ferric ion diffusion phenomena that blur the 3D distribution of the signal. However, equally important are the spontaneous oxidation effects, which alter the sensitivity of the gels over time. In some gels, this effect is very pronounced and must be accounted for even when production, calibration and use of the gels are separated by just a few days. In other cases, the effect is much milder, but should still be properly accounted for when gels are used over a long period a time, such as in the proposed monitoring of adaptive radiotherapy treatments. Our work examined an…
Il cammino a ritroso: Schorn, Creuzer e il significato della scultura nel «Kunst-Blatt»

The article investigates the reception of Creuzer's crucial text «Symbolik und Mythologie der alten Völker, besonders der Griechen» by the editor of the German art review «Kunst-Blatt».
FRÉDÉRIC BRULY BOUABRÉ | Cosmogonie
2023
Frédéric Bruly Bouabré. Cosmogonie, curated by Cristina Costanzo, is the first solo exhibition in Sicily of one of the founding fathers of African contemporary art as well as one of the most fascinating artists of our time. The exhibition project, initiated by 091 Art Project Gallery and supported by the Embassy of Ivory Coast in Italy and the Department of Culture and Societies, University of Palermo, presents the artworks of Frédéric Bruly Bouabré (1923, Zepreguhe – 2014, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoir) following his 2022 retrospective at MoMA in New York, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré: World Unbound. Previously, his work has been shown at the Venice Biennale, both at the Pavilion of the Ivory Coast and …

Complexation and Electronic Communication between Corannulene-Based Buckybowls and a Curved Truxene-TTF Donor
2017
Abstract: The association behavior of an electron-donating, bowl-shaped, truxene-based tetrathiafulvalene (truxTTF) with two corannulene-based fullerene fragments, C32H12 and C38H14, is investigated in several solvents. Formation of 1:1 complexes is followed by absorption titrations and complemented by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The binding constants are in the range logKa=2.9–3.5. DFT calculations reveal that the most stable arrangement is the conformation in which the 1,3-dithiole ring of truxTTF is placed inside the concave cavity of the corannulene derivative. This arrangement is confirmed experimentally by NMR measurements, and implies that a combination of p–p and C…
Identification of Acremonium isolates from grapevines and evaluation of their antagonism towards Plasmopara viticola
2015
Some endophytic fungal genera in Vitis vinifera, including Acremonium, have been reported as antagonists of Plasmopara viticola. Endophytic Acremonium isolates from an asymptomatic grapevine cultivar Inzolia from Italy were identified by morphological features and multigene phylogenies of ITS, 18S and 28S genes, and their intra-specific genomic diversity was analyzed by RAPD analysis. Culture filtrates (CFs) obtained from Acremonium isolates were tested in vitro for their inhibitory activity against the P. viticola sporangia germination. Among 94 isolates, 68 belonged to the Acremonium persicinum and 26 to the Acremonium sclerotigenum. RAPD analysis grouped the A. persicinum isolates into 1…
Staurosporine-induced apoptosis in Chang liver cells is associated with down-regulation of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL.
2004
A potent inhibitor of serine/threonine kinases, staurosporine exerts antiproliferative and apoptotic effects in many cancer cells, although the exact mechanism of its action is still unclear. This study examines the effects of staurosporine on Chang liver cells, an immortalized non-tumor cell line, in comparison with those caused in HuH-6 and HepG2 cells, two human hepatoma cell lines. Our results provide evidence that staurosporine promotes apoptosis in Chang liver cells as observed by flow cytometric analysis and acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining. The effect appeared already after 8 h of treatment and increased with treatment time and dose. After 48 h of exposure to 200 nM stauros…
