Flavour mixing transport theory and resonant leptogenesis

We derive non-equilibrium quantum transport equations for flavour-mixing fermions. We develop the formalism mostly in the context of resonant leptogenesis with two mixing Majorana fermions and one lepton flavour, but our master equations are valid more generally in homogeneous and isotropic systems. We give a hierarchy of quantum kinetic equations, valid at different approximations, that can accommodate helicity and arbitrary mass differences. In the mass-degenerate limit the equations take the familiar form of density matrix equations. Sterile neutrinos and B–L symmetry

We revisit the relation between the neutrino masses and the spontaneous breaking of the B-L gauge symmetry. We discuss the main scenarios for Dirac and Majorana neutrinos and point out two simple mechanisms for neutrino masses. In this context the neutrino masses can be generated either at tree level or at quantum level and one predicts the existence of very light sterile neutrinos with masses below the eV scale. The predictions for lepton number violating processes such as mu to e and mu to e gamma are discussed in detail. The impact from the cosmological constraints on the effective number of relativistic degree of freedom is investigated.
High resolution analysis and differential condensation in RBA-banded human chromosomes.

Human prophase, premetaphase, and mid-metaphase chromosomes are prepared and analyzed using the thymidine cell synchronization technique and R-banding patterns (RBA). Haploid sets with 700–1000 bands can be demonstrated. Sequences of chromosomes of different degrees of condensation are helpful for a better understanding and classification of regions of extended chromosomes. A considerable variation in the condensation of parts of homologous chromosomes is reflected in the variability of the arm ratio. This differential condensation of chromosomes is entirely effected by variation of the degree of condensation in AT rich interbands and can be attributed to the degree of labeling by BrdU.
