Ergebnisse der bilateralen Operationstechnik bei primärem Hyperparathyreoidismus

2001

AIM OF THE STUDY The surgical success rate and clinical outcome after surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism were evaluated in a prospective long-term follow-up study. PATIENTS AND METHODS 407 patients, 396 with the first manifestation, 6 with recurrent and 5 with persistent disease underwent operation from August 1, 1987 to August 15, 1999. All patients were prospectively investigated in a long-term follow-up study and underwent reexaminations at regular surveillance intervals. The postoperative course is known in 93.9% of all patients. RESULTS The prevalence of asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism was 5.6% in our patients. Surgical cure was obtained in 97.7% of patients after initial…

Bowel ultrasonography in acute abdomen: beyond acute appendicitis.

2021

Acute abdomen is a common reason for consultation in the emergency department. A broad spectrum of entities, including diverse diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, can cause acute abdomen. Although computed tomography is the technique most widely used to evaluate acute abdomen in the emergency department, abdominal ultrasound is often performed first and allows bowel disease to be suspected. This article describes the ultrasound features of diverse bowel diseases that can cause acute abdomen, such as acute diverticulitis, bowel obstruction, gastrointestinal perforation, bowel ischemia, intraabdominal fat necrosis, and miscellaneous processes such as endometriosis, foreign bodies, or vasc…

Surgical management of retinal detachment because of macular hole in highly myopic eyes

2012

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to review the current management of macular hole retinal detachment in highly myopic eyes. METHODS: We searched English MEDLINE databases from January 1997 to January 2011 for surgical management of macular hole retinal detachment in highly myopic eyes. The main outcomes reported include retinal reattachment and visual acuity after primary surgery. RESULTS: Surgical procedures including pneumoretinopexy, pars plana vitrectomy with gas or silicone oil tamponade with or without laser therapy around the macular hole, and macular buckling have been the primary treatment choices. New techniques, including internal limiting membrane or epiretinal membrane pe…

Pre-operative diclofenac HPβCD for pain control of needle biopsy in musculoskeletal neoplasm: preliminary results.

2015

Needle biopsy is the main standard method used for diagnosis of musculoskeletal tumors of the limbs and superficial trunk. Pain control during this procedure is through the use of Local Anaestetic (L.A.). In order to achieve a complete pain control in our cases, recently we started using diclofenac HPβCD 50 mg via s.c. preoperativly. We present the clinical results of a non-randomized study of two eterogeneous groups of patients: "Experimental" Group (1): diclofenac HPβCD 50 mg via s.c. one hour before surgical procedure, local anesthesia and ev. diclofenac HPβCD 50 mg via s.c. 12 hours postoperative; "Conventional" Group (2): local anesthesia and ev. postoperative tramadol 100 mg via oral …

Small bowel obstruction after caesarean section: Laparoscopic management. Two case reports

2020

Abstract Introduction Caesarean section is the most common abdominal surgery performed on women worldwide. Adhesions represent a severe complication of cesarean section and can cause different degrees of bowel obstruction. Case reports We report two unusual cases of small bowel obstruction treated with laparoscopic approach after caesarean section performed for gynecological pathologies. In the first one small bowel obstruction was due to volvulus caused by a severe pelvic adhesion syndrome; in the second one, occlusive picture was related to presence of multiple adhesion phenomena between the sigmoid colon and the right ovary as result of abdominal hysterectomy. Discussion The incidence of…

Cohort profile: Thrombolysis in Ischemic Stroke Patients (TRISP): a multicentre research collaboration

2018

PurposeThe ThRombolysis in Ischemic Stroke Patients (TRISP) collaboration aims to address clinically relevant questions about safety and outcomes of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and endovascular thrombectomy. The findings can provide observational information on treatment of patients derived from everyday clinical practice.ParticipantsTRISP is an open, investigator-driven collaborative research initiative of European stroke centres with expertise in treatment with revascularisation therapies and maintenance of hospital-based registries. All participating centres made a commitment to prospectively collect data on consecutive patients with stroke treated with IVT using standardised definiti…

Clinical retrospective study of dental implant removal : do patients who require implant removal desire implant prosthesis again?

2020

Background This study investigated the causes of dental implant removal due to complications, and examined whether patients who had dental implant removal desired re-implant prosthesis treatments. Material and Methods A retrospective case–control study was conducted on patients who had their dental implants removed. We investigated whether the removed dental implant was replaced with other implant prostheses. Age, sex, diabetes, smoking, implant site distribution, reason for implant removal, and blade and root-form implants were categorized as predictive variables. The outcome variable was desire for re-implantation or use of other prosthetic methods after implant removal. A logistic regres…

Predictability of short implants ( < 10 mm) as a treatment option for the rehabilitation of atrophic maxillae: a systematic review

2016

Background Short implants (< 10 mm) are one of the treatment options available in cases of limited vertical bone. A purpose of this paper is to evaluate the predictability of short implants as an alternative to technically molthough such implants are now widely used, there is controversy regarding their clinical reliability. There complex treatments in patients with atrophic maxillae, based on a systematic review of the literature and the analysis of the implant survival rates, changes in peri-implant bone level, and associated complications. It is postulated that short implants offer clinical results similar to those of longer implants. Material and Methods A Medline-PubMed search was made…
