“Hopefully nähdään” : North American Finnish language learners building community through virtual conversation hours

In the Finnish Studies Programs at two North-American universities, Finnish language students have collaborated online and participated in informal virtual conversational coffee hour meetings. These meetings are offered to complement students’ collaboration conducted during regular language classes. This article investigates what students talk about when they meet each other virtually and how they build a shared sense of community during these meetings. nonPeerReviewed
PTC124-mediated translational readthrough of a nonsense mutation causing Usher syndrome type 1C.

We investigated the therapeutic potential of the premature termination codon (PTC) readthrough-inducing drug PTC124 in treating the retinal phenotype of Usher syndrome, caused by a nonsense mutation in the USH1C gene. Applications in cell culture, organotypic retina cultures, and mice in vivo revealed significant readthrough and the recovery of protein function. In comparison with other readthrough drugs, namely the clinically approved readthrough-inducing aminoglycoside gentamicin, PTC124 exhibits significant better retinal biocompatibility. Pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastelimme vuorovaikutustutkimuksen keinoin, miten yhteistoiminta rakentui hetki hetkeltä pariterapian reflektiivisten prosessien muutoskohdissa. Käyttämämme aineisto koostui Jyväskylän yliopiston Relationaalinen mieli -tutkimushankkeen yhteydessä kerätyistä videoidusta pariterapiaistunnoista. Kävimme läpi 62 videoitua pariterapiaistuntoa ja valikoimme niistä yhdeksän reflektiivisten prosessien aikaista muutoskohtaa. The frescoes at marine thermae discovered in 1886 during the excavation of the small thermal complex dating between the 1th and 3rd century AD, and located on the seafront of Reggio Calabria, have been collected already collapsed. They are currently part of the permanent exhibition of the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria. This paper illustrates the results of the restoration intervention, carried out in the form of an educational activity in the context of an agreement signed between the MarRC and the University of Calabria, and the results of the diagnostic investigations carried out by the IPCF-CNR of Messina and the STEBICEF department of the University of Palermo.

In order to control fungal colonization and the related deterioration process of cultural objects, several chemical compounds are actually utilised. These products generally are toxic, not biodegradable and persisting for long time in the environment, also acting on not-targeted biological systems. In this study, specifically to wooden cultural object, Origanum vulgare L. and Thymus vulgaris L. essential oils are proposed as green biocides to contrast the development of Penicillium chrysogenum, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger fungal species. Exploring the collaborative synthesis of information during online reading

Abstract This descriptive study sought to understand the complexities of integrative processing during collaborative online reading. Student pairs constructed a collaborative understanding while reading online information about a controversial issue by connecting, combining and organizing information that originated from prior knowledge, self-selected online texts, and discussions during an online inquiry task.
