Decay of aπh11/2⊗νh11/2microsecond isomer in61136Pm75

2008

An experiment has been performed to populate several extremely neutron-deficient nuclei around the mass-140 region of the nuclear chart, using a beam of {sup 54}Fe on a {sup 92}Mo target at an energy of 315 MeV. Analysis of these data using recoil-isomer tagging has established that the yrast {pi}h{sub 11/2} x {nu}h{sub 11/2},J{sup {pi}}=(8{sup +}), bandhead state in {sup 136}Pm is isomeric with a half-life of 1.5(1) {mu}s. This isomeric state decays via a 43-keV, probable-E1 transition to a J{sup {pi}}=(7{sup -}) state. Consideration of the theoretical Nilsson orbitals near the Fermi surface suggests that the J{sup {pi}}=(8{sup +}) state has a {nu}h{sub 11/2}[505](11/2){sup -} x {pi}h{sub …

Effects of orbital occupancies and spin–orbit partners on -decay rates

2010

Abstract Neutrinoless double beta ( 0 ν β β ) decay of the 76Ge, 82Se, 128Te, 130Te and 136Xe nuclei is discussed in terms of the associated nuclear matrix element (NME). The effects of the size of the single-particle model space and the occupancies of individual orbits on the NME are discussed by using the proton–neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with effective, G-matrix-derived nuclear forces. It is found that only in some cases the orbital occupancies play a decisive role for the size of the NME, whereas the inclusion of all the spin–orbit partners is essential to achieve a NME of reasonable quality. The obtained results are compared with published results of othe…

Effects of orbital occupancies and spin–orbit partners II: decays of 76Ge, 82Se and 136Xe to first excited states

2011

Abstract The neutrinoless double beta ( 0 ν β β ) decays of 76Ge, 82Se and 136Xe to the first excited 0 + states ( 0 1 + ) in 76Se, 82Kr and 136Ba are studied in calculations using different sizes of the single-particle model spaces and different occupancies of the individual orbits. This is a continuation of a similar study [J. Suhonen, O. Civitarese, Effects of orbital occupancies and spin–orbit partners on 0 ν β β -decay rates, Nucl. Phys. A 847 (2010) 207–232] of the 0 ν β β decays of 76Ge, 82Se, 128Te, 130Te and 136Xe to the ground states of 76Se, 82Kr, 128Xe, 130Xe and 136Ba. The nuclear matrix elements and half-lives of the decays to the 0 1 + states are calculated by the use of the …

Search for the terminating27−state inNd140

2015

In the search for the fully aligned 27(-) state in Nd-140 predicted by cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations, new close-to-spherical high-spin states have been discovered. Both the close-to-spherical and the triaxial calculated states are in good agreement with the experimental results, supporting the existence of shape coexistence up to very high spins. Shell-model calculations using a newly developed effective interaction for the 50 <= N, Z <= 82 mass region are in good agreement with the observed spherical states. The comparison between the experimental and calculated level energies allowed the relative energy to be established between several proton and neutron orbitals at high energy…

New region of deformation in the neutron-rich 60 24Cr36 and 62 24Cr38

2003

The neutron-rich nuclei 23 60-63V have been produced at GANIL via interactions of a 61.8A·MeV 76Ge beam with a 58Ni target. Beta-decay to 24 60-63Cr has been investigated using combined β- and γ-ray spectroscopy. Half-lives of the 60-63V nuclei have been determined, and the existence of a beta-decay isomer in the 60V nucleus is strongly supported. The observation of low-energy 2+ states in 60Cr (646keV) and 62Cr (446keV) suggests that these isotopes are strongly deformed with β2 ∼ 0.3. This is confirmed by shell model calculations which show the dominant influence of the intruder g and d orbitals to obtain low 2+ energies in the neutron-rich Cr isotopes.

Shell structure of potassium isotopes deduced from their magnetic moments

2014

\item[Background] Ground-state spins and magnetic moments are sensitive to the nuclear wave function, thus they are powerful probes to study the nuclear structure of isotopes far from stability. \item[Purpose] Extend our knowledge about the evolution of the $1/2^+$ and $3/2^+$ states for K isotopes beyond the $N = 28$ shell gap. \item[Method] High-resolution collinear laser spectroscopy on bunched atomic beams. \item[Results] From measured hyperfine structure spectra of K isotopes, nuclear spins and magnetic moments of the ground states were obtained for isotopes from $N = 19$ up to $N = 32$. In order to draw conclusions about the composition of the wave functions and the occupation of the …

Effect of higher orbital angular momenta in the baryon spectrum

2001

We have performed a Faddeev calculation of the baryon spectrum for the chiral constituent quark model including higher orbital angular momentum states. We have found that the effect of these states is important, although a description of the baryon spectrum of the same quality as the one given by including only the lowest-order configurations can be obtained. We have studied the effect of the pseudoscalar quark-quark interaction on the relative position of the positive- and negative-parity excitations of the nucleon as well as the effect of varying the strength of the color-magnetic interaction.

States of $ \rho$ B* $ \bar{{B}}^{{*}}_{}$ with J = 3 within the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations

2015

We study the interaction of the a $\rho$ and $D^*$, $\bar D^*$ with spins aligned using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. We select a cluster of $D^* \bar D^*$, which is found to be bound in $I=0$ and can be associated to the X(3915), and let the $\rho$ meson orbit around the $D^*$ and $\bar D^*$. In this case we find an $I=1$ state with mass around 4340 MeV and narrow width of about 50 MeV. We also investigate the case with a cluster of $\rho D^*$ and let the $\bar D^*$ orbit around the system of the two states. The $\rho D^*$ cluster is also found to bind and leads to the $D^*_2(2460)$ state. The addition of the extra $\bar D^*$ produces further binding and we find,…

Coherent pion production induced by protons and light ions

1995

Abstract We study coherent pion production by means of the (p,n) and (He,t) reactions on different nuclei and at different energies of the projectile. Energy and angular distributions are calculated. The angular distributions are rather narrow along the direction of the momentum transfer, particularly in heavy nuclei. The reaction is sensitive to the longitudinal part of the elementary NN→NΔ interaction. It also provides a new tool to obtain information on the pion-nuclear interaction, complementary to that offered by reactions with real pions.
