How Do Mobile ICTs Enable Organizational Fluidity : Toward a Theoretical Framework

2017

The focus of this theoretical paper is to investigate how mobile information and communication technologies (ICTs) give rise to the notion of organizational fluidity. Drawing upon previous literature, five affordances of mobile ICTs − mobility, connectedness, interoperability, identifiability, and personalization − are discussed. Delving into the concept of organizational fluidity, the paper captures three dimensions of organizational fluidity, namely, team fluidity, task fluidity, and control fluidity. The paper then develops propositions on how different combinations of the mobile ICT affordances influence each of the dimensions of organizational fluidity. The contributions and implicatio…

Simple Rules for Complex Near-Glass-Transition Phenomena in Medium-Sized Schiff Bases

2022

Glass-forming ability is one of the most desired properties of organic compounds dedicated to optoelectronic applications. Therefore, finding general structure–property relationships and other rules governing vitrification and related near-glass-transition phenomena is a burning issue for numerous compound families, such as Schiff bases. Hence, we employ differential scanning calorimetry, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and quantum density functional theory calculations to investigate near-glass-transition phenomena, as well as ambient- and high-pressure molecular dynamics for two structurally related Schiff bases belonging to the family of glycine imino esters. Firstly…

Enhancing the performance of HSDPA communication with multipoint transmission techniques

2015

The evolution of mobile phones, tablets and other mobile communication devices has led to a significant increase in the amount of data delivered over mobile networks. In order to satisfy the climbing data rate demands of customers, existing mobile broadband networks are being expanded with new features that allow ubiquitous and consistent networking experience. This research presents three multipoint transmission techniques for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) based High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) communication protocol. Multiflow, High-Speed Single-Frequency Network (HS-SFN) and Multipoint-to-Point Single-Frequency Network (M2P-SFN) enable transmission of user-dedicat…

Asymmetries of Knowledge and Epistemic Change in Social Gaming Interaction

2014

While a growing number of studies investigate the role of knowledge and interactional management of knowledge asymmetries in conversation analysis, the epistemic organization of multilingual and second language interactions is still largely unexplored. This article addresses this issue by investigating how knowledge asymmetries and changing positions with regard to knowledge impact social interaction in multilingual gaming activities. Drawing on a collection of video recordings of social gaming sessions collected over a two year period and involving the same two participants, we examine how the participants orient to knowledge and deal with knowledge asymmetries while solving game-related p…

Multinationals, R&D and productivity: Evidence for UK Manufacturing firms

2010

In this study, we analyze multinationality (domestic-based firms versus multinationals) and foreignness (foreign versus domestic firms) effects in the returns of R&D to productivity. We follow a two-step strategy. In the first step, we consistently estimate firm's productivity by GMM and numerically compute the sample distribution of the R&D returns. In the second step, we use stochastic dominance techniques to make inferences on the multinationality and foreignness effects. Results for a panel of UK manufacturing firms suggest that multinationality and foreignness effects operate in an opposite way: whilst the multinationality effect enhances R&D returns, the foreignness diminishes them. C…

Informasjonsflyt ved mottak og respons på trygghetsalarmer : en casestudie for å undersøke hvilken betydning tilgang på informasjon og informasjonsfl…

2016

Masteroppgave i helse- og sosialinformatikk- Universitetet i Agder, 2016 The theme of this study is security alarms and information flow. The background for the study is estimates regarding an upcoming growing number of security alarms in municipal healthcare services, recommendations on the transition from analogue to digital security alarms, and reports on the current organization of the safety alarms of varying quality and low efficiency (Frantzen, 2014; Fensli, 2015 Kvernland-Berg, 2014). Purpose The aim of this study was to find what importance access to information and information flow had in the working process with security alarms for a future-oriented health services. Method The su…

Clinical reasoning and critical reflection in physiotherapists’ examinations of patients with low back pain in its early phase : a qualitative study …

2017

Aim: The aim of this study was to deepen the current understanding of physiotherapists’ decision-making process and more specifically, to investigate their reflections on their clinical reasoning when examining low back pain patients. Method: Data were collected in interviews with six physiotherapists, were the stimulated recall method was used. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed and then analysed by content analysis. Results: Physiotherapists critically analysed and reflected their choices and decisions in clinical reasoning with patient’s symptoms, onset of pain, clinical test choices and results. They stopped to consider the adequacy of tests for drawing conclusions and their…

Active compression-decompression cardiopulmonary resuscitation — Instructor and student manual for teaching and training

1996

In an attempt to standardize the teaching and training of active compression-decompression cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ACD-CPR), a group of leading emergency physicians, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, paramedics and nurses with practical, theoretical, educational, and scientific experience in the subject met in June 1995. The group was called The International Working Group of Teaching and Training Active Compression-Decompression CPR. The group was 'born' as a result of the first International Conference of Active Compression-Decompression CPR held in Copenhagen in March 1995. The following paper describes the background, development and text of and ACD-CPR course manual for both stu…

Physiotherapists’ experiences of direct access for clients with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction: a qualitative study

2019

Aims: The aim of this study was to qualitatively analyse physiotherapists’ experiences and perspectives for delivering services directly, without prescription or referral, for clients with musculoskeletal pain or dysfunction. Methods: This was a qualitative study where data were collected from questionnaires given to 34 physiotherapists, 18 of them being in direct access for 6 years and 16 for 6 months. There were 15 structured questions and 3 open-ended ones. The answers were analysed with quantitative and qualitative methods. Results: The data analysis of the open-ended questions showed that physiotherapists had positive experiences of direct access. This practice brought meaningfulness, …
