Heterogeneity in family firms: contextualising the adoption of family governance mechanisms

PurposeThis research is aimed to better understand what characteristics of family firms create a context in which family governance systems are more frequently adopted.Design/methodology/approachWe analyse a sample of 490 Spanish family businesses using cluster analysis, and we identify four different types of family businesses whose characteristics are associated to the adoption of different family governance systems, i.e. family councils and family protocols. The article is an empirical study of the hypothesis put forward in theories of social capital, according to which voluntary associations have a positive e ect on trust in people. The central research question of the article is: are association memberships or active participation related to trust towards people in Finland? Looking at the number of association memberships and association registrations shows that association life has been active in Finland. An N-terminal deletion variant of HCN1 in the epileptic WAG/Rij strain modulates HCN current densities.

Rats of the Wistar Albino Glaxo/Rij (WAG/Rij) strain show symptoms resembling human absence epilepsy. Thalamocortical neurons of WAG/Rij rats are characterized by an increased HCN1 expression, a negative shift in Ih activation curve, and an altered responsiveness of Ih to cAMP. We cloned HCN1 channels from rat thalamic cDNA libraries of the WAG/Rij strain and found an N-terminal deletion of 37 amino acids. In addition, WAG-HCN1 has a stretch of six amino acids, directly following the deletion, where the wild-type sequence (GNSVCF) is changed to a polyserine motif. Plant Productivity Dispersion and the College Premium: Evidence from the United States 1977-1997

For the United States in 1987-2014, I document at business cycle frequencies that the high-skill workers’ employer size wage premium is high (low) in times of low (high) unemployment relative to that of the low-skill workers. Specifically, the differential employer size wage premium between high-skill and low-skill workers has an unconditional correlation of -0.4 with the unemployment rate, and varies by about 6 percent over the business cycle. The skill premium itself does not exhibit a clear business cycle pattern over the sample period.
