Sequence variation and regulatory variation in acetylcholinesterase genes contribute to insecticide resistance in different populations of Leptinotar…
2021
Abstract Although insect herbivores are known to evolve resistance to insecticides through multiple genetic mechanisms, resistance in individual species has been assumed to follow the same mechanism. While both mutations in the target site insensitivity and increased amplification are known to contribute to insecticide resistance, little is known about the degree to which geographic populations of the same species differ at the target site in a response to insecticides. We tested structural (e.g., mutation profiles) and regulatory (e.g., the gene expression of Ldace1 and Ldace2, AChE activity) differences between two populations (Vermont, USA and Belchow, Poland) of the Colorado potato beet…
Cryogenic 35GHz pulse ENDOR probehead accommodating large sample sizes: Performance and applications.
2009
The construction and performance of a cryogenic 35GHz pulse electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) probehead for large samples is presented. The resonator is based on a rectangular TE(102) cavity in which the radio frequency (rf) B(2)-field is generated by a two turn saddle ENDOR coil crossing the resonator along the sample axis with minimal distance to the sample tube. An rf power efficiency factor is used to define the B(2)-field strength per square-root of the transmitted rf power over the frequency range 2-180MHz. The distributions of the microwave B(1)- and E(1)-field, and the rf B(2)-field are investigated by electromagnetic field calculations. All dielectrics, the sample tube, and…
Fragmentations and reactions of some isotopically labelled dimethyl methyl phosphono and trimethyl phosphoro thiolates and thionates studied by elect…
2005
In this paper, studies on electrospray ionisation ion trap mass spectrometry of organophosphates are extended to a series of dimethyl methylphosphono and trimethyl phosphoro thionates and thiolates and some deuterated isotopomers. Of particular, interest is the comparison of the collision-induced fragmentation of ions from these compounds with those of the non-sulphur containing analogues reported previously. The thiono and thiolo isomeric structures of the sulphur containing ions analogous to I and II (see below) have very similar energies and undergo a ready interconversion. In the case of the phosphono compounds, the electronic structure calculations show that the methyl migration implic…
An Incremental Analysis of the Embryonic Development of the Tobacco Hornworm,Manduca sexta
1987
Summary A timetable of the embryonic development of Manduca sexta has been compiled to serve as a basis for physiological studies. Embryogenesis is complete within 117 hr at 24° C and was analyzed by examining specimens representing 20 stages, i.e. intervals of 5% of the total developmental time. Stage 0 denotes the newly deposited egg. Germ band formation, gastrulation, differentiation of tissues and organs, and blastokinesis are described in detail. By stage 1 (6 hr post-oviposition) the cellular blastoderm is evident and the presumptive serosal and embryonic cells are distinguishable. At stage 2 the germ band has separated from the blastoderm, and by stage 3 it has elongated enormously, …
IN-VITRO REGENERATION OF CALENDULA MARITIMA GUSS. (ASTERACEAE), A THREATENED PLANT ENDEMIC TO WESTERN SICILY
2016
Calendula maritima is a critically endangered endemic plant of Western Sicily. Besides habitat destruction, the hybridization with the contiguous congener species C. fulgida is a major threat to its conservation. For this reason, seed-based propagation and seed storage are not appropriate for conservation purposes. In the present paper we describe a rapid and prolific in vitro plant regeneration method by direct organogenesis from leaves of C. maritima. Leaf explants were cultured on solid Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium in the presence of several plant growth regulator combinations. The best shoot multiplication rate (2.5 shoots/explant) was obtained on the medium containing 4.4 µM 6-benzy…
Fabrication of cobalt and cobalt oxide/graphene composites: towards high-performance anode materials for lithium ion batteries.

Antibacterial studies, DNA oxidative cleavage, and crystal structures of Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes with two quinolone family members, ciprofloxacin…
2005
Nine coordination compounds of Cu(II) and Co(II) with Ciprofloxacin (HCp) and Enoxacin (HEx) as ligands have been prepared and characterized. Single crystal structural determinations of [Cu(HCp)2(ClO4)2].6H2O (1) and [Co(HEx)2(Ex)]Cl.2CH(3)OH.12H2O (4) are reported. The crystal of 1 is composed of [Cu(HCp)2(ClO4)2] units with the two perchlorate anions semicoordinated, and uncoordinated water molecules. The copper ion, at a crystallographic inversion centre, is in a tetragonally distorted octahedral environment. The structure of 4 consists of cationic monomeric [Co(HEx)2(Ex)]+ units, chloride anions, and uncoordinated methanol and water molecules. The complex is six-coordinate, with a sligh…
Biomonitoring of glyphosate and AMPA in the urine of Spanish lactating mothers
2021
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the urinary levels of Glyphosate (Gly) and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in Spanish breastfeeding mothers (n = 97), to identify the main predictors of exposure and to perform a risk assessment. Urine samples were analyzed using a method based on solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) determination. The developed method showed limits of quantification of 0.1 μg/L for both analytes. The detection frequencies (DFs) were 54% for Gly and 60% for AMPA, with geometric means (GMs) of 0.12 μg/L and 0.14 μg/L, respectively. In the statistical analysis, no relationship was found between the u…
The use of blue tit eggs as a biomonitoring tool for organohalogenated pollutants in the European environment
2010
In the present study, large scale geographical variation in the occurrence of organohalogenated pollutants (OHPs) was investigated throughout Europe using eggs of a terrestrial resident passerine species, the blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus). Blue tit eggs from 10 sampling locations, involving suburban, rural and remote areas, in 7 European countries were collected and analysed. Sum polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) levels ranged from 150 ng/g lipid weight (lw) to 2003 ng/g lw. Sum polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) ranged from 3.95 ng/g lw to 114 ng/g lw. As expected, PCB and PBDE concentrations were significantly higher in the sampled suburban locations compared to the rural and remote loc…
