Abstract Background Jerboa (Jaculus orientalis) is a deep hibernating rodent native to subdesert highlands. During hibernation, a high level of ketone bodies i.e. acetoacetate (AcAc) and D-3-hydroxybutyrate (BOH) are produced in liver, which are used in brain as energetic fuel. These compounds are bioconverted by mitochondrial D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) E.C. 1.1.1.30. Here we report, the function and the expression of BDH in terms of catalytic activities, kinetic parameters, levels of protein and mRNA in both tissues i.e brain and liver, in relation to the hibernating process. The Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) is witnessing an increase in chronic disorders, including mental illness. With ongoing unrest, this is expected to rise. This is the first study to quantify the burden of mental disorders in the EMR. We used data from the Global Burden of Disease study (GBD) 2013. DALYs (disability-adjusted life years) allow assessment of both premature mortality (years of life lost-YLLs) and nonfatal outcomes (years lived with disability-YLDs). DALYs are computed by adding YLLs and YLDs for each age-sex-country group. The genus Cylapofulvidius Chérot & Gorczyca, 2000 is proposed as a junior subjective synonym of Fulvidius Poppius, 1909 syn. nov. and all members of Cylapofulvidius are transferred to the genus Fulvidius. The genus Fulvidius and its type species F. punctatus Poppius, 1909 are redescribed, and diagnoses of each Fulvidius species, habitus picture of the adult and illustration of male genital structures of most of the treated species are provided. Scanning electron micrographs of selected structures of Fulvidius webbi (Chérot & Gorczyca, 2000) are presented for the first time. A key to species of Fulvidius is provided.

Verso la fine degli anni Sessanta del secolo scorso, Mang Ke, Genzi e Duo Duo erano giovani studenti. Durante la Rivoluzione Culturale, insieme a un gran numero di giovani, furono inviati nelle zone rurali per conoscere le condizioni di vita di un popolo cinese che doveva essere incoraggiato alla costruzione di uno stile di vita comunista. L'esperienza nelle aree rurali trasformerà Mang Ke, Genzi e Duo Duo in poeti. Già noti mentre erano a Baiyangdian come i "tre moschettieri" per via della loro amicizia, avvieranno un processo di rinnovamento della poesia cinese contemporanea.
