A new styracosternan hadrosauroid (Dinosauria: Ornithischia) from the Early Cretaceous of Portell, Spain

2021

A new styracosternan ornithopod genus and species is described based on the right dentary of a single specimen from the Mirambell Formation (Early Cretaceous, early Barremian) at the locality of Portell, (Castellón, Spain).Portellsaurus sosbaynatigen. et sp. nov. is diagnosed by two autapomorphic features as well as a unique combination of characters. The autapomorphies include: the absence of a bulge along the ventral margin directly ventral to the base of the coronoid process and the presence of a deep oval cavity on the medial surface of the mandibular adductor fossa below the eleventh-twelfth tooth position. Phylogenetic analyses reveal that the new Iberian form is more closely related …

Diversity of large ornithopod dinosaurs in the upper Hauterivian-lower Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) of Teruel (Spain): a morphometric approach

2020

We report some large ornithopod vertebrae from two upper Hauterivian-lower Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) localities in El Castellar (Maestrazgo Basin, Teruel,Spain). These fossils have been studied systematically as well as morphometrically using a multivariate analysis in order to analyse the diversity of the sample. In fact, principal component analysis has been demonstrated as a useful tool for establishing affinities in isolated iguanodontian vertebrae, at least when size effect is not removed from the analysed dataset. As result of this study, twolarge indeterminate styracosternans are distinguished in the sample: a large one with platycoelus anterior caudal vertebrae related to the gene…

Segnalazione per la flora siciliana di Trifolium ornithopodioides L. (Fabaceae) e revisione della sua area di distribuzione.

2011

Trifolium ornithopodioides (L.) Sm. (Fabaceae) a new record for the Sicilian flora – T. ornithopodioides, a rare element of the Italian flora, is recorded for the first time in the territory of Palermo (Western-Sicily). The population identified, consisting of about one hundred individuals, colonizes a narrow area between the roadside and the edge of the freshwater temporary pond of Rebuttone, on acidic substratum (flysch) at 720 m a.s.l. After the examination of herbarium specimens (RO and FI) and literature, some incongruences have been found on the Italian distribution of this taxon. A distribution map including the new record, new literature data and corrections is presented.
