Management of a crown-root fracture : a novel technique with interdisciplinary approach

2018

Anterior teeth with subgingival fractures require a complex treatment plan that addresses biologic, functional and aesthetic factors. This case report describes the management of a crown-root fractured maxillary left central incisor. An interdisciplinary approach was used to restore the tooth due to the complex nature of the treatment. Orthodontic extrusion was performed to move the fracture line above the alveolar bone and periodontal surgery to recontour the altered gingival margin. Finally, the incisor was restored performing a root canal retreatment with a fiber post and a full ceramic crown. The treatment resulted in secured periodontal health and good aesthetics. Key words:Crown-root …

Die BWS-Beweglichkeit von Impingementpatienten im Vergleich zu Gesunden - eine inklinometrische Studie

2004

AIM The aim of this study was to analyse the relation between the mobility of the thoracic spine and an impingement syndrome of the shoulder. METHOD In a prospective study, 50 patients with an impingement syndrome and 50 healthy test subjects were examined for the mobility of their thoracic spines. All patients and test subjects were examined according to a standardized protocol. The experiments were carried out in the biomechanical laboratory of our clinic with the Plurimetercompass and the Inclinometer of Rippstein. RESULTS In 23 patients a tendinosis calcarea was diagnosed radiologically, 27 patients suffered from a plain impingement without calcification, hence both groups were analyzed…

Non-surgical correction of gummy smile using temporary skeletal mini-screw anchorage devices : a systematic review

2021

Background There are no studies that have systematically reviewed randomized control trials and/or prospective cohort studies that have assessed the significance of temporary skeletal mini-screw anchorage devices (TSAD) for the correction of gummy-smile. The aim of the present systematic review was to assess the significance of non-surgical correction of gummy smile using TSAD. Material and methods The addressed focused question was "Are temporary skeletal mini-screw anchorage devices effective for the correction of gummy smile?" Indexed databases were searched up to and including May 2020. Different combinations of the following key-indexing terms were used: anchorage; gummy smile, mini-sc…

Classification of Gingival Recession

2018

Gingival recession is a common finding in many patients and is clinically manifested by an apical displacement of the gingival margin in relation to the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ). Various classification systems have been proposed to classify gingival recession defects and to predict final root coverage outcomes. Among them, the Miller classification is still the most commonly used among dental practitioners and researchers. This chapter reviews the different classification systems available for gingival recession defects and explores the strengths and limitations of them.

Prothèses totales des articulations temporomandibulaires

2016

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is probably the most complex human joint. As in all joints, its prosthetic replacement may be indicated in selected cases. Significant advances have been made in the design of TMJ prostheses during the last three decades and the indications have been clarified. The aim of our work was to make an update on the current total TMJ total joint replacement. Indications, contraindications, prosthetic components, advantages, disadvantages, reasons for failure or reoperation, virtual planning and surgical protocol have been exposed.

Implant-supported overdenture manufactured using CAD/CAM techniques to achieve horizontal path insertion between the primary and secondary structure:…

2015

This report describes the case of an edentulous patient with an atrophic maxilla and severe class III malocclusion. Prosthetic rehabilitation was performed using CAD/CAM techniques for manufacturing an implant-supported overdenture with horizontal insertion. A vestibulo-lingual insertion overdenture is a precision prosthesis with a fixation system affording a good fit between the primary and secondary structure. Both structures exhibit passive horizontal adjustment. This treatment option requires the same number of implants as implant-supported fixed dentures. The horizontal assembly system prevents the prosthesis from loosening or moving in response to axial and non-axial forces. The techn…

Condylar form alteration on skeletal class II patients that underwent orthognathic surgery : an overview of systematic reviews

2020

Background Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) is commonly considered as the surgical technique of election for the treatment of skeletal class II with mandibular hypoplasia. After orthognathic surgery, condylar resorption can occur as a surgical relapse, which may affect the temporomandibular joint. Objective: This study aimed to summarise published systematic review that assess if orthognathic surgery with mandibular advancement performed on skeletal class II patients results in condylar form alteration. Material and methods A literature search was performed using the electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase along with several sources of grey literature.…

Distraction osteogenesis in dog with a tooth-borne device: Histological and histomorphometric analysis.

2019

Background The distraction osteogenesis (DO) is the biological process of new bone formation between the surfaces of bone segments gradually separated by incremental traction. However, the lack of solid experimental studies using the tooth-borne distractor does not allow comparing this technique with the classical procedures. This study aimed to establish the effect of two different activation protocols in new bone formation, with a new intraoral tooth-borne device for dog mandibular distraction osteogenesis. Material and methods Nine beagle dogs were split into 3 similar groups, Group A the control, Group B subjected to two daily activations of 0.5 mm and Group C subjected to a single dail…

Lip repositioning technique. A simple surgical procedure to improve the smile harmony

2018

Excessive gingival display is an esthetic concern for patients. It is a condition in which an overexposure of the maxillary gingiva (>3mm) is present during smiling. There are different etiologies of a gummy smile, such as vertical maxillary excess, short and hyperactive upper lip, altered passive eruption, anterior dentoalveolar extrusion, or a combination of these causes. The correct diagnosis of all etiologic factors is imperative for its appropriate management. Many techniques have been used to restore the dentogingival relation for the management of gummy smile. Lip repositioning is a conservative surgical technique used to treat excess gingival display. It is a largely unknown treatme…

Immediate Loading in All-on-Four

2019

Severe bone atrophy of the upper maxilla (Cawood and Howell class V and VI) is associated with certain problems such as reduced perioral tissue support, the impossibility of wearing complete dentures, chewing and speech alterations, and difficulties in placing dental implants due to the limited amount of available bone.
