A cytochemical study on the effects of energy deprivation on autophagocytosis in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells

The effect of energy deprivation on autophagocytosis in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells was studied using cytochemical techniques. Autophagocytosis was induced with vinblastine incubation (0.1 mM) and the cellular ATP-level was lowered with 2-deoxy-D-glucose (0.35 mM). Acid phosphatase was used as a marker for lysosomal enzymes and imidazole-buffered osmium tetroxide impregnation in order to study the effects of energy deprivation on the maturation of autophagic vacuole (AV) membranes. Production and investigation of neutron-rich Osmium isotopes with and around N=126 using gas flow transport method

Neutron-rich isotopes of heavy nuclei are until now poorly studied. In this work we investigate neutron-rich osmium isotopes produced in multi-nucleon transfer reactions. The reaction 136Xe+208Pb at energy near Coulomb barrier is used for production of osmium isotopes. The CORSAR-V setup is used to record the characteristics of osmium isotopes. The separation of the reaction products is based on their respective volatility. Experimental results are presented and discussed. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Eight‐Coordinate Endohedral Rhenium, Osmium and Iridium Atoms in Rare‐Earth Halide Cluster Complexes

Endohedral (interstitial) atoms are essential for almost all of the rare-earth halide cluster complexes. Most of these contain octahedral clusters, some are isolated, but the majority exhibits condensation by common edges to structures of higher dimensionality. Higher coordination numbers of the endohedral atoms are rare. Four examples of extended cluster complexes with eight-coordinate endohedral atoms of sixth-period elements (Re, Os, Ir) are presented. Cyclic voltammetry and ultraviolet-visible/infrared (UV-vis/IR) spectroelectrochemistry were used to study the cathodic electrochemical behavior of the osmium complexes mer-[Os(III)(CO) (bpy)Cl3] (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) and trans(Cl)-[Os(II)(CO) (PrCN)(bpy)Cl2] at variable temperature in different solvents (tetrahydrofuran (THF), butyronitrile (PrCN), acetonitrile (MeCN)) and electrolytes (Bu4NPF6, Bu4NCl). Studies on vinblastine-induced autophagocytosis in mouse liver

The origin of the membranes of autophagic vacuoles (AV) and acquisition of acid phosphatase into AV's were studied in vinblastine-induced autophagocytosis (VBL, 50 mg/kg, i.p.) in mouse hepatocytes. Using unbuffered OsO4, very intense staining was observed in the outer cisternae of the Golgi apparatus and also frequently in the cavity between the double membranes obviously destined to form AV's as well as in the cavity between the double membranes of newly formed AV's. There may occur a transformation process in the membranes limiting an AV analogous to that observed at the Golgi cisternae. Lattice-Site-Specific Spin Dynamics in Double PerovskiteSr2CoOsO6

Magnetic properties and spin dynamics have been studied for the structurally ordered double perovskite Sr2CoOsO6. Neutron diffraction, muon-spin relaxation, and ac-susceptibility measurements reveal two antiferromagnetic (AFM) phases on cooling from room temperature down to 2 K. In the first AFM phase, with transition temperature TN1=108  K, cobalt (3d7, S=3/2) and osmium (5d2, S=1) moments fluctuate dynamically, while their average effective moments undergo long-range order. Osmium(III) Complexes with POP Pincer Ligands: Preparation from Commercially Available OsCl3·3H2O and Their X-ray Structures

Complexes OsCl3{dbf(PiPr2)2} [1; dbf(PiPr2)2 = 4,6-bis(diisopropylphosphino)dibenzofuran], OsCl3{xant(PiPr2)2} [2; xant(PiPr2)2 = 9,9-dimethyl-4,5-bis(diisopropylphosphino)xanthene], and OsCl3{xant(PPh2)2} [3; xant(PPh2)2 = 9,9-dimethyl-4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)xanthene] have been obtained in high yield by the reaction of the corresponding diphosphine with OsCl3·3H2O. The ruthenium(III) counterparts RuCl3{dbf(PiPr2)2} (4), RuCl3{xant(PiPr2)2} (5), and RuCl3{xant(PPh2)2} (6) are similarly obtained from RuCl3·3H2O in moderate yields. The X-ray structures of dbf(PiPr2)2 and complexes 1−3 are also reported.

But for the heaviest elements, the transactinides, this role of the periodic table reaches its limits because increasingly strong relativistic effects on the valence electron shells can induce deviations from known trends in chemical properties. Ruthenium and Osmium Complexes of Phosphine-Porphyrin Derivatives as Potential Bimetallic Theranostics: Photophysical Studies

A series of (η6-p-cymene)ruthenium(II)- and osmium(II) complexes of porphyrin-phosphane derivatives have been synthesized as potential bimetallic theranostic candidates. The photophysical and electrochemical properties were investigated, and these species desirably exhibit no or almost no photoinduced intramolecular atom, energy, and electron transfer between the dye and the metallic fragment. These favorable features are mostly associated with the presence of their long chain (i.e., ∼ 1 nm) separating the two functional units. Filipin labelling and intramembrane particles on the membranes of early and later autophagic vacuoles in Ehrlich ascites cells

Cholesterol and intramembrane particle distribution on autophagic vacuole membranes was studied in Ehrlich ascites cells using filipin labelling and freeze-fracture electron microscopy. Unsaturated fatty acids were stained using imidazole-buffered osmium tetroxide. Autophagocytosis was induced with vinblastine, and early autophagic vacuoles were accumulated by lowering the ATP level in the cells with iodoacetate.
