Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disorder characterized by destruction of the articular cartilage, subchondral bone alterations and synovitis. This chapter is not intended to advocate for a particular surgical technique, but it does provide insight into improving our understanding of the pathophysiology of anterior knee pain syndrome. Our objectives were: to identify a relationship, or lack of one, between the presence of PFM and the presence of anterior knee pain; to analyze the long-term response of VMO muscle fibers to increased resting length; and to determine the incidence of patellofemoral osteoarthritis after IPR surgery. Due to the growing knowledge of structure and function of extracellular matrix proteins, congenital abnormalities of connective tissues are identified or suspected in an increasing number of clinical disorders. In osteogenesis imperfecta and two subtypes of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, the affected matrix proteins were identified and mutations in the corresponding genes (procollagen type I and type III, respectively) could be demonstrated. Some forms of chondrodysplasia were shown to be associated with mutations in the gene encoding for the cartilage-specific collagen (type II). Aceclofenac versus piroxicam in the management of osteoarthritis of the knee: A double-blind controlled study

Abstract The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of aceclofenac tablets 100 mg twice daily with piroxicam tablets 20 mg once daily in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee or gonarthritis. A randomized, double-blind, controlled study of 3 months' duration was conducted in patients with gonarthritis diagnosed according to the World Health Organization criteria. A total of 212 patients were recruited; 205 patients fully complied with the inclusion-exclusion criteria. Of these, 103 received aceclofenac and 102 received piroxicam.
