Mini-drones swarms and their potential in conflict situations

2020

The Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) commonly known as drones are currently used in a wide range of operations such as border monitoring, aerial reconnaissance, traffic control and military interventions in armed conflicts. These aerial vehicles are expected to be reliable, automated and sometimes autonomous machines, albeit the human factor continues to play a crucial role in programming and control. At their genesis, drones were complex, large and reserved to an exclusive club of technologically advanced military powers. They tended to be used against technologically weak military targets. Developments in the price, size and sophistication of drones has now enabled almost anyone to purchase…

METHODS OF SUPPLIERS EVALUATION IN ROMANIA

2015

My topic is methods of suppliers evaluation and it contains several subtopics. The first one includes the most popular factors which are influencing choice of supplier. Second is for Finding Supplier Lists the other one is about submit all information and making a choose which supplier is the most appropriate for as. My report is also connected with the practical part of the problem. All this factors influencing choice of supplier are very important especially in our days, because there are a lot of different suppliers on the market and if we want our company to be the best we have to make right decision about our supplier.

Towards Mitigating the Impact of UAVs on Cellular Communications

2018

The next generation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) will rely on mobile networks as a communication infrastructure. Several issues need to be addressed to enable the expected potentials from this communication. In particular, it was demonstrated that flying UAVs perceive a high number of base stations (BSs), consequently causing more interferences on non-serving BSs. This unfortunately results in decreased throughput for ground user equipments (UEs) already connected. Such a problem could be a limiting factor for mobile network-enabled UAVs, due to its consequences on the quality of experience (QoE) of served UEs. This underpins the focus of this article, wherein the effect of UAVs' comm…

Task-focused behaviour and mothers' causal attributions in relation to dyslexia : a follow-up from age 8 to age 20

2018

Children with dyslexia tend to find reading stressful. Coping responses, such as task-focused and avoidant behaviours, can help mitigate the stress. Task-focused behaviour is associated with reading development, with others’ at-tributions of success and failure linked to task-focused behaviour. The present study aims to examine whether differences in task-focused behaviour between those with dyslexia and those without dyslexia exist in childhood (age 8) and persist in adolescence (age 15) and early adulthood (age 20). The study also aimed to understand the relationship between mothers’ causal attributions of their 15-year-old adolescents’ school successes and fail-ures and task-focused beha…

Family- and classroom-related factors and mother–kindergarten teacher trust in Estonia and Finland

2014

This study examined the role of family-related (mother’s education, depressive symptoms and child’s gender) and kindergarten-related (teacher’s experience, teaching practices and class size) factors in mothers’ and teachers’ mutual trust in Estonia and Finland. Six hundred eighteen (206 Estonian and 412 Finnish) mothers of kindergarten children and their teachers (26 Estonian, 49 Finnish) were participated in the study. Both mothers and teachers filled in the questionnaire on trust; teachers’ teaching practices were observed with early childhood classroom observation measure. The results of multilevel modelling showed that mothers in both countries trusted more in teachers who used child-ce…

Not just daycare: nordic mothers in research, development and innovation navigating work and childcare

2022

Nordic welfare policies mitigate work–childcare reconciliation; however, they are not enough for mothers working in intensive work cultures. In addition, there are differences among the three Nordic states in both work–family policies and cultural norms as to how they should be used. In this article, we study the resources mothers who work in research, development and innovation (R&D&I) in Finland, Norway and Sweden rely on in their work–childcare reconciliation. Thematic analysis of interviews with 74 professionals resulted in identifying four main resources: father involvement, parental leave system and daycare, flexible working, and grandparent help and networks. Our analysis brings to v…

Navigation Performance Evaluation for AutomaticGuided Vehicles

2015

International audience; —Automatic guided vehicles (AGVs), an industrial form of a mobile robot, typically navigate using a central computer commanding AGV movement on predefined paths. How well they follow these paths is not well-defined in research articles and their performance is reported in non-standard manufacturer specifications. Furthermore, AGV technology is advancing towards vision guidance to map and localize their position from onboard the vehicle, whereas performance evaluation of advanced navigation techniques is just beginning. This paper describes AGV experiments using ground truth measurement comparisonfor performance evaluationof AGV navigation. A generic test procedure and…

Cuerpos de energía: Formas alternativas de ser-en-el-mundo

2020

Based on an ethnographic approach, this paper explores how members of a new age spiritual movement known as ?Llave Mariana? (LLM) build and experience their bodies. At the same time, it develops a thick description of their ritual practices and later it analyzes, delving fundamentally into the phenomenological perspective, how these members shape and transform their forms of self-perception, experience, and representation of others and the environment. Finally, it considers the implications these spiritual practices have in the search and consolidation of alternative ways of being-in-the-world

Minimizing fleet operating costs for a container transportation company

2006

Abstract This paper focuses on a fleet management problem that arises in container trucking industry. From the container transportation company perspective, the present and future operating costs to minimize can be divided in three components: the routing costs, the resource (i.e., driver and truck) assignment costs and the container repositioning costs (i.e., the costs of restoring a given container fleet distribution over the serviced territory, as requested by the shippers that own the containers). This real-world problem has been modeled as an integer programming problem. The proposed solution approach is based on the decomposition of this problem in three simpler sub-problems associate…

Age of Information Based URLLC-enabled UAV Wireless Communications System

2022

This paper considers an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) communication network, where UAV operate as an aerial mobile relay between a source and a destination of the network. To capture the “timelines” of the received information at the destination node, a new performance metric named age of information (AoI) is considered. In addition, a short packet communication scheme maintains low latency in the proposed UAV wireless communication system. The finite block-length theory investigates the performances of short packet communications scheme in the UAV-assisted wireless communications system. In this paper, the Average Age of Information (AAoI) is estimated by applying the Stochastic Hybrid Sy…
