Data from: Seasonal dynamics of Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus L.) populations spawning in the vicinity of marginal habitats

Gillnet sampling and analyses of otolith shape, vertebral count and growth indicated the presence of three putative Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus L.) populations mixing together over the spawning season February–June inside and outside an inland brackish water lake (Landvikvannet) in southern Norway. Peak spawning of oceanic Norwegian spring spawners and coastal Skagerrak spring spawners occurred in March–April with small proportions of spawners entering the lake. Ocular counterrolling. Some practical considerations of a new evaluation method for diagnostic purposes.

Ocular counterrolling (OCR) data taken from the literature (12 publications) were used to test the best fit (least-square fit) of these measurements with respect to three mathematical models: a sine relation between OCR and the lateral tilt stimulus, a complex cosine-square relation, and a logarithmic relation between OCR gain and tilt. The latter proved to be the best fitting function. On the basis of this model, we attempted to define a physiological transfer function between OCR gain and tilt, which could serve as a reference of normal population, assuming healthy subjects for the investigations applied. The static ocular counterrolling (OCR) of the four scientific crew members in the first Spacelab mission was measured during baseline-data-collection before and after the flight of SL-1. It was presumed that the modification of otolithic responses during spaceflight will be reflected in specific changes of the OCR-gain on the first days after recovery. The magnitude of OCR was determined analysing colour-transparencies of subjects right eyes that were produced in different positions of lateral body tilt. Vestibular compensation of otolith graviceptive dysfunction in stroke patients

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A sensitive and frequent clinical sign of a vestibular tone imbalance is the tilt of the perceived subjective visual vertical (SVV). There are no data yet focusing on lesion location at the cortical level as a factor for predicting compensation from the tilt of the SVV. European vestibular experiments on the Spacelab-1 mission: 1. Overview.

During the flight of Spacelab-1 a series of vestibular experiments was performed on the crew by a group of European investigators. Control experiments were carried out on the same subjects pre- and postflight. The tests included caloric stimulation of the ears, threshold measurements of response to linear acceleration, motion sickness provocative stimuli, vestibulo-ocular reflexes during linear and angular stimulation, estimation of the subjective vertical (luminous line measurements) and static ocular counterrotation at various tilt angles. First measurements of field metabolic rate in wild juvenile fishes show strong thermal sensitivity but variations between sympatric ecotypes

The relationship between physiology and temperature has a large influence on population-level responses to climate change. In natural settings, direct thermal effects on metabolism may be exaggerated or offset by behavioural responses influencing individual energy balance. Drawing on a newly developed proxy, we provide the first estimates of the thermal performance curve of field metabolism in a wild fish. We investigate the thermal sensitivity of field metabolic rate in two sympatric, genetically distinct ecotypes of Atlantic cod from the Skagerrak coast of southern Norway.
