SAT0385 Lack of Correlation between Clinical and Ultrasonographic Evidence of Disease Activity in Psoriatic Arthritis:

2014

Background Musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) has been shown to be a sensitive tool to detect inflammation in inflammatory arthritides [1]. In practice, the composite clinical metric DAS28 is used as a feasible tool for measurement of disease activity, not only in rheumatoid arthritis but also for peripheral arthritis in psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Although both types of measures may reflect disease activity in inflammatory arthritis, some data have shown a poor correlation between clinical and US findings [2]. Objectives To compare clinical and US assessments of active disease in PsA patients. Methods In this cross sectional study PsA patients were consecutively recruited from an outpatient cl…

Childhood maltreatment and clinical severity of treatment‐resistant depression in a French cohort of outpatients (FACE‐DR): One‐year follow‐up

2020

International audience; Childhood maltreatment is associated with major depressive disorder (MDD). It not only increases the risk of lifetime MDD, but it also aggravates its course. Among depressed patients, 20-30% of them experience treatment-resistance depression (TRD). We aimed to assess the association between childhood maltreatment, severity of depression in a unipolar TRD sample, and patient outcomes after one-year of follow-up. Methods: Patients were recruited for a prospective cohort from the French network of TRD expert centers. Depressive symptom severity was assessed with the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology se…

2010

Introduction and Aims. The development and dissemination of effective treatments for cocaine dependence is an important public health priority in Europe, and especially in Spain, given the increase in treatment demand over recent years. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) for cocaine dependents at an outpatient clinic within the Spanish public health system. Design and Methods.A total of 82 cocaine-dependent patients were randomly assigned to one of two treatment conditions: Standard Treatment (n = 35) or CRA (n = 47). High prevalence and little awareness in patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases and genital involvement.

2020

Background Genital involvement in patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases is frequent, yet insufficiently acknowledged. Objective To evaluate the prevalence of genital symptoms in psoriasis and chronic urticaria patients, effects on quality of life, physician-patient relations and disease management. Patients and methods 100 patients with psoriasis and 100 with chronic urticaria from our outpatient clinic, as well as 50 healthy controls were included. Data was collected using questionnaires developed by dermatological experts. Results Out of 250 subjects, 74 % had already experienced genital symptoms - 70 % of psoriasis patients and 58 % of urticaria patients. Seven out of ten even…

Towards the tailoring of glucocorticoid replacement in adrenal insufficiency: the Italian Society of Endocrinology Expert Opinion.

2020

Context: Glucocorticoid (GC) replacement therapy in patients with adrenal insufficiency (AI) is life saving. After over 50 years of conventional GC treatment, novel formulations are now entering routine clinical practice. Methods: Given the spectrum of medications currently available and new insights into the understanding of AI, the authors reviewed relevant medical literature with emphasis on original studies, prospective observational data and randomized controlled trials performed in the past 35 years. The Expert Opinion of a panel of selected endocrinologists was sought to answer specific clinical questions. The objective was to provide an evidence-supported guide, for the use of GC in…

Internet use by Patients with Psychiatric Disorders Searching for Medical Information

2009

Aims:Despite the increasing use of the Internet to seek medical information, little is known about the web search for mental health information among psychiatric patients. We aimed to identify the patients’ demographic and clinical characteristics that better predict the search for medical information, as well as the most consulted aspects of psychiatric disorders.Method:Over a one-month period, a consecutive series of patients followed at one Spanish hospital psychiatric outpatient clinic completed a 13-item questionnaire about their personal Internet use. Results:Among the 144 participating patients (72% women), 61% reported having ever used the Internet, with lower search rates for genera…

Pharmacological treatment of sexual offenders in German outpatient treatment centers

2018

In Germany, depending on a sexual offender's culpability and the severity of the offence, he/she can be placed either in the forensic-psychiatric or the correctional system. Numbers related to the pharmacological treatment of sexual offenders for the correctional system are missing so far. In sexual offenders, the pharmacological treatment of paraphilic disorders is of special importance. The present study aimed at assessing the prevalence of pharmacological sexual offender treatment in German outpatient treatment centers supervising mainly clients from the correctional sector. An online questionnaire was sent to 112 outpatient treatment centers and 21 provided data relevant for the present…

Twelve-Week Internet-Based Individualized Exercise Program in Adults With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

2020

Background Systemic lupus erythematosus is a systemic autoimmune disease, which is associated with high cardiovascular risk, a predisposition to metabolic disorders, muscle wasting, and fatigue. Exercise therapy has become an important part of the long-term treatment of comorbidities in systemic lupus erythematosus. Exercise can lead to various benefits in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus such as increased aerobic capacity and exercise tolerance, resulting in an increased quality of life, decreased depression, and decreased fatigue. At the moment, no evidence-based treatment guidelines that recommend exercise for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus exist. Also, the efficac…
