Analysis of Hawaii ironman performances in elite triathletes from 1981 to 2007.

2008

International audience; PURPOSE: To examine the improvement in swimming (3.8 km), cycling (180 km), running (42.2 km), and overall performances at the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon of elite males and females between 1981 and 2007. METHODS: Trends across years, gender differences in performance times in the three disciplines, and overall winning times of the top 10 males and females were analyzed. RESULTS: Overall performance time in the ironman decreased rapidly from 1981 but has remained stable since the late 1980s. From 1988 to 2007, linear regression analysis showed that change in swimming, cycling, running, and total performance for both males and females was less than 1.4% per decade, excep…

Estimation of lead-time bias and its impact on the outcome of surveillance for the early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

2014

Lead-time is the time by which diagnosis is anticipated by screening/surveillance with respect to the symptomatic detection of a disease. Any screening program, including surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is subject to lead-time bias. Data regarding lead-time for HCC are lacking. Aims of the present study were to calculate lead-time and to assess its impact on the benefit obtainable from the surveillance of cirrhotic patients. Background & Aims: Lead-time is the time by which diagnosis is anticipated by screening/surveillance with respect to the symptomatic detection of a disease. Any screening program, including surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is subject to …

Extended resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: A retrospective single-center cohort study

2019

Abstract Background For complete removal of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), extended resection is often necessary. Information on the influence of visceral or vascular extension, extended resection, or postoperative morbidity on survival is scarce. The aim of this study was to show the impact of an aggressive surgical attitude on morbidity, mortality, and long-term outcome. Materials and methods All explorations at a high volume tertiary center between January 2008 and June 2018 with histological proof of ICC were included in this retrospective cohort study. The primary outcome was the extent of resection, secondary outcomes were postoperative morbidity, and their influence on overal…

Primary Radical Prostatectomy or Ablative Radiotherapy as Protective Factors for Patients With mCRPC Treated With Radium-223 Dichloride: An Italian M…

2020

Abstract Background We investigated, in a real-life setting, the prognostic relevance of previous primary treatment (radical prostatectomy [RP] or external beam radiotherapy [EBRT]) on overall survival for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) treated with radium-223 (223Ra). Materials and Methods In the present multicenter retrospective study, we enrolled 275 consecutive patients. The demographic and clinical data and mCRPC characteristics were recorded and evaluated at baseline and at the end of treatment or progression. 223Ra was administered according to the current label authorization until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. We divided the who…

First experimental results of a cryogenic stopping cell with short-lived, heavy uranium fragments produced at 1000 MeV/u

2013

A cryogenic stopping cell (CSC) has been commissioned with U-238 projectile fragments produced at 1000 MeV/u. The spatial isotopic separation in flight was performed with the FRS applying a monoenergetic degrader. For the first time, a stopping cell was operated with exotic nuclei at cryogenic temperatures (70 to 100K). A helium stopping gas density of up to 0.05mg/cm(3) was used, about two times higher than reached before for a stopping cell with RF ion repelling structures. An overall efficiency of up to 15%, a combined ion survival and extraction efficiency of about 50%, and extraction times of 24ms were achieved for heavy a-decaying uranium fragments. Mass spectrometry with a multiple-r…

Towards Personalization of Peer Review in Learning Programming

2017

Peer review is one of the effective processes for sharing knowledge and improving overall learning performance. This became more popular by the use of ICT. However, it is challenging to implement peer review in learning programming languages due to the complexity of the subject matter. A group of peer reviewers may have different overall performance but similar weaknesses on a given aspect of the programming tasks. Hence, they may not be able to help each other to address individual needs. In this paper, we present a personalized approach to peer review with consideration to criteria based assessment and individual performance on specific programming tasks. This is achieved using a novel pe…

2020

International audience; Introduction The aim of this study was to identify prognostic factors of overall survival in patients with FIGO stage IIIc or IVa ovarian cancer (OC) treated by neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by interval debulking surgery.Materials and methods Data from 483 patients with ovarian cancer were retrospectively collected, from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2016, from the FRANCOGYN database, regrouping data from 11 centers specialized in ovarian cancer treatment. Median overall survival was determined using the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to define prognostic factors of overall survival. Results The median overall sur…

The on-line isotope separation facility helios at the mainz reactor

1980

Abstract The on-line isotope separation facility HELIOS consisting of a helium-jet transport system coupled to a high transmission mass separator is described. The main characteristics of the system were determined from γ-ray measurements on neutron-rich nuclides. The transmission from the target to the skimmer is about 60%; the overall efficiency for typical fission product elements is 0.05–0.2% and the transit time for Cs is about 1.0 s.

Permanent seed brachytherapy for clinically localized prostate cancer: long-term outcomes in a 700 patient cohort.

2015

Abstract Purpose Few large European studies have evaluated long-term outcomes for permanent prostate brachytherapy (PPB) as monotherapy for clinically localized prostate cancer. The objective of the present study was to evaluate long-term survival in this patient profile. Methods and Materials Retrospective study of 700 patients who underwent transperineal ultrasound-guided iodine-125 PPB (145 Gy) between January 2000 and July 2012. Median age was 64.8 years (range, 35–79). Most patients (638 of 700; 91%) had low-risk disease (D'Amico criteria). Eighty-five patients (12%) received hormonal treatment. Overall survival, cause-specific survival, and biochemical relapse–free survival were calcu…
