Energy Efficiency Optimization for Multi-cell Massive MIMO : Centralized and Distributed Power Allocation Algorithms

2021

This paper investigates the energy efficiency (EE) optimization in downlink multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). In our research, the statistical channel state information (CSI) is exploited to reduce the signaling overhead. To maximize the minimum EE among the neighbouring cells, we design the transmit covariance matrices for each base station (BS). Specifically, optimization schemes for this max-min EE problem are developed, in the centralized and distributed ways, respectively. To obtain the transmit covariance matrices, we first find out the closed-form optimal transmit eigenmatrices for the BS in each cell, and convert the original transmit covariance matrices desi…

Work Partitioning on Parallel and Distributed Agent-Based Simulation

2017

Work partitioning is a key challenge with ap- plications in many scientific and technological fields. The problem is very well studied with a rich literature on both distributed and parallel computing architectures. In this paper we deal with the work partitioning problem for parallel and distributed agent-based simulations which aims at (i) balancing the overall load distribution, (ii) minimizing, at the same time, the communication overhead due to agents' inter-dependencies. We introduce a classification taxonomy of work partitioning strategies and present a space-based work partitioning ap- proach, based on a Quad-tree data structure, which enables to: identify a good space partitioning …

Extracting Features from Social Media Networks Using Semantics

2016

This paper focuses on the analysis of social media content generated by social networks (e.g. Twitter) in order to extract semantic features. By using text categorization to sort text feeds into categories of similar feeds, it has been proved to reduce the overhead that is required to retrieve these feeds and at the same time, it provides smaller pools in which further investigations can be made easier. The aim of this survey is to draw a user profile, by analysing his or her tweets. In this early stage of research, being a pre-processing phase, a dictionary based approach is considered. Moreover, the paper describes an algorithm used in analysing the text and its preliminary results. This …

How to prevent cyber-attacks in inter-vehicle communication network?

2015

In this work, we aim to secure communication in a vehicular network by providing a proactive mechanism that can detect and predict with a high accuracy the future behavior of malicious attacker. In fact, the mechanisms proposed in the literature consider only detection mechanisms and do not prevent attacks that may arise in the network. Simulation results show that our mechanism has a high detection rate, low false positive rate while generating a low communication overhead.

An accurate and efficient collaborative intrusion detection framework to secure vehicular networks

2015

Display Omitted We design and implement an accurate and lightweight intrusion detection framework, called AECFV.AECFV aims to protect the vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) against the most dangerous attacks that could occurred on this network.AECFV take into account the VANET's characteristics such as high node's mobility and rapid topology change.AECFV exhibits a high detection rate, low false positive rate, faster attack detection, and lower communication overhead. The advancement of wireless communication leads researchers to develop and conceive the idea of vehicular networks, also known as vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Security in such network is mandatory due to a vital informa…

WiSHFUL : enabling coordination solutions for managing heterogeneous wireless networks

2017

The paradigm shift toward the Internet of Things results in an increasing number of wireless applications being deployed. Since many of these applications contend for the same physical medium (i.e., the unlicensed ISM bands), there is a clear need for beyond-state-of-the-art solutions that coordinate medium access across heterogeneous wireless networks. Such solutions demand fine-grained control of each device and technology, which currently requires a substantial amount of effort given that the control APIs are different on each hardware platform, technology, and operating system. In this article an open architecture is proposed that overcomes this hurdle by providing unified programming i…

Maximizing energy transfer and RES integration using dynamic thermal rating

2019

Abstract The production of electricity from wind and other renewable sources is rapidly increasing all over the world, causing significant changes in the management of electrical systems. The current structural asset is not adequate to manage this growing generation of energy. The hypothesis of construction of new power lines would mean taking into consideration economic, political and social problems. The following paper reports the experience gained by the Italian TSO, Terna S.p.A, on the use of the DTR (Dynamic Thermal Rating), which is able to dynamically calculate the real transport capacity of an overhead power line. The results obtained are encouraging as they show how it is possible…

Fusion of CNN and sparse representation for threat estimation near power lines and poles infrastructure using aerial stereo imagery

2021

Abstract Fires or electrical hazards and accidents can occur if vegetation is not controlled or cleared around overhead power lines, resulting in serious risks to people and property and significant costs to the community. There are numerous blackouts due to interfering the trees with the power transmission lines in hilly and urban areas. Power distribution companies are facing a challenge to monitor the vegetation to avoid blackouts and flash-over threats. Recently, several methods have been developed for vegetation monitoring; however, existing methods are either not accurate or could not provide better disparity map in the textureless region. Moreover, are not able to handle depth discon…

Lightweight Relay Selection in Multi-Hop Wake-Up Radio Enabled IoT Networks

2018

Wake-up Radios (WuRs) are becoming more popular in Internet of Things (IoT) networks owing to their overwhelming advantages such as low latency, high energy saving, and on-demand communication. In a multi-hop WuR-IoT network, route establishment between source and destination prior to actual data communications consumes a significant portion of energy. To reduce energy consumption and protocol overhead for route establishment, we propose a lightweight relay (LR) selection scheme, referred to as LR-WuR, where a lookup table and acknowledgment are used for next hop relay selection. We develop an analytical model to evaluate the performance of LR-WuR. Extensive simulations are performed to val…

5G V2V Communication With Antenna Selection Based on Context Awareness: Signaling and Performance Study

2022

Enhanced vehicle-to-everything (eV2X) communication is one of the key challenges to be addressed by the fifth generation (5G) of cellular mobile communications. In particular, eV2X includes some 5G vehicular applications targeting fully autonomous driving which require ultra-high reliability. Although vehicular communications are by default assumed between single antennas located on the roof of the transmitter and receiver vehicles, prior art has shown that there are other antenna positions more suitable for V2X communication, depending on the specific communication context. Antenna selection can be used in this case to select one specific antenna or a subset of them better suited for a cer…
