Molecular dynamics simulation of epitaxial growth of the Si(001) surface

1988

Abstract Molecular beam epitaxy on a Si(100) substrate has been studied using a molecular dynamics method with the Stillinger-Weber model potential. At high substrate temperature, 800 K, well ordered crystalline layers are found to grow underneath an amorphous overlayer of approximately 5 A thick. A limiting temperature for epitaxial growth is found to be 480 K, below which the growth does not produce ordered layers. When the sample deposited below 480 K is heated up to 800 K and the deposition is started again the original adatoms start to form ordered atomic layers. Thus the collisions of the deposited atoms in addition to the substrate temperature seem to play an essential role in the gr…

MgO/Ag(100): confined vibrational modes in the limit of ultrathin films

2003

The vibrational modes of clean MgO films are investigated vs film thickness by means of high-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy. For thin films (20\char21{}30 monolayers) we observe, in accord with the literature, the Fuchs-Kliewer phonon at $677{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ and the Wallis mode at $524{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}.$ For ultrathin films standing wave optical phonons confined in the overlayer are present, whose frequencies depend strongly on film thickness. Comparison with theoretical calculations for MgO slabs on a perfect conductor shows that the experimental frequencies are lower than expected, indicating the presence of compressive stress. At and below one-…

Notice of Violation of IEEE Publication Principles: Enhanced P2P Services Providing Multimedia Content

2006

[This paper has been withdrawn by the publisher]Traditional peer-to-peer (P2P) services provide only basic searching facilities, based on unique identifiers or small sets of keywords. Unfortunately, this approach is very inadequate and inefficient when a huge amount of multimedia resources is shared. In this paper, we present an original image and video sharing system, in which a user is able to interactively search interesting resources by means of content-based image and video retrieval techniques. In order to limit the network traffic cost, maximizing the usefulness of each peer contacted in the query process, we also propose the adoption of an adaptive overlay routing algorithm, exploit…

Implant-supported overdenture with horizontal insertion for treating the edentulous atrophic maxilla: A case series

2020

Abstract Statement of problem Rehabilitation of edentulous patients with severe maxillary atrophy is a clinical challenge. Although several treatment options are available, the implant-supported overdenture has been widely advocated. However vertical insertion implant-supported overdentures have drawbacks, including wear, aging, and the continuous maintenance of retention systems. Whether an implant-supported overdenture with a horizontal insertion pathway can overcome these problems is unclear. Purpose The purpose of this observational study was to determine the clinical and biological behavior of a new type of implant-supported overdenture with a horizontal insertion pathway over a mean c…

Fracture Resistance of Partial Indirect Restorations Made With CAD/CAM Technology. A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

2019

Background: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the fracture resistance and survival rate of partial indirect restorations inlays, onlays, and overlays fabricated using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology from ceramics, composite resin, resin nanoceramic, or hybrid ceramic and to analyze the influence of proximal box elevation on fracture resistance. Materials and methods: This systematic review was based on guidelines proposed by the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). An electronic search was conducted in databases US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health …

Improving Chord Lookup Protocol for P2PSIP-Based Communication Systems

2009

Chord has been suggested as mandatory overlay technology in the future P2PSIP-based communication systems. Chord allows for the available peer/resource lookup in no more than hops, where N is the total number of the peers in the overlay network. However, as a protocol originally designed for background downloading applications, Chord has a few drawbacks when supporting P2PSIP real-time communication systems. These drawbacks are related to ID assignment, the relation between ID and physical location, the routing styles and lack of cache, etc. In this paper, we investigate several approaches that can improve the efficiency of the peer/resource lookup algorithm. After that, we simulate two sys…

INTEGRATED SURVEYNG WITH MOBILE MAPPING SYSTEM, EGNOS, NTRK AND LASER TECHNOLOGIES IN THE PARK "NINNI CASSARA" IN PALERMO

2018

Abstract. This article summarizes the experience gained between 2012 and 2013 by the department of "Civil Engineering, Environmental, Aerospace and Materials" of University of Palermo on the integrated survey of Ninni Park Cassara Park in Palermo and the subsequent testing of methods, tools and techniques based on current research regarding the acquisition and processing of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data and laser-scanner. A fruitful time dedicated to the design of the survey has allowed us to become aware of the critical issues that the site presents because of its vast extent and diversity in size and number of the elements of which it is composed. The work has been addres…

Homeostatic control of polyamine levels under long-term salt stress in Arabidopsis

2011

Salt stress has been frequently studied in its first osmotic phase. Very often, data regarding the second ionic phase is missing. It has also been suggested that Putrescine or/and Spermine could be responsible for salt resistance. In order to test this hypothesis under long-term salt stress, we obtained Arabidopsis thaliana transgenic plants harboring pRD29A::oatADC or pRD29A::GUS construction. Although Putrescine was the only polyamine significantly increased after salt acclimation in pRD29A::oatADC transgenic lines, this rendered in no advantage to this kind of stress. The higher Spermine levels found in WT and transgenic lines when compared to control conditions along with no increment o…

Operator Revenue Analysis for Device-to-Device Communications Overlaying Cellular Network

2018

Device-to-device (D2D) communications has recently gathered significant research interest due to its efficient utilization of already depleting wireless spectrum. In this article, we considered a scenario where D2D users communicate in the presence of cellular users in an overlay network setup. In order to analyze the revenue of service providers in monetary terms, the paper provides exact expressions of operator profit for both D2D and cellular users. More specifically, we take into account different network parameters including user density, transmit power and channel variations to understand their impact on the total revenue of the operator. Finally, we derive the balancing value of freq…
