Skażenia substancjami ropopochodnymi stanowią ogromny problem, nie tylko w rolnictwie, ponieważ negatywnie wpływają na właściwości fizyko-chemiczne i aktywność biologiczną gleb. Związki te mogą się również akumulować w roślinach lub wraz z pyłem osiadać na ich zielonych częściach. Większość z nich to substancje karcenogenne, dlatego ich usuwanie ze środowiska wymaga zastosowania efektywnych, tanich i bezpiecznych metod. Sulfur Dioxide Oxidation Catalyzed by Photosensitized Ytterbium Diphthalocyanine

Oxidation of SO2 into SO3 was found effectively catalyzed by photosensitized ytterbium diphthalocyanine, YbPc2 (Pc = phthalocyanine ligand, C32H16N8) when performed in air-saturated dimethylformamide (DMF) solution at 20 °C. The process follows according to a multi-step complex mechanism involving chemical induction as its driving force. Excitation energy of the sandwich molecular system in YbPc2 is used to promote the reaction by creating a reactive intermediate form of the ytterbium complex hosting up to eight SO2 molecules. The conversion of SO2 proved complete.

ZnO – Yb2O3 composite optical ceramics: Synthesis, structure and spectral-luminescent properties

International audience; Zinc oxide optical ceramics containing 0 – 2 wt% ytterbium are prepared byuniaxial hot pressing of commercial oxides at 1150 and 1180 °C. The ceramics have themain crystalline phase of hexagonal wurtzite-type ZnO. Ytterbium ions do not enter theZnO crystals but form a cubic sesquioxide phase of Yb2O3 located at the ZnO grainboundaries. Yb acts as an inhibitor for the ZnO grain growth. The ceramics exhibittransmittance up to 60% in the visible. Their transmission in the infrared is determinedby the free charge carrier absorption. Effects of redox treatments on the structural composition of a ceria–zirconia oxide for application in the three-way catalysis

Abstract The influence of calcination and redox cycles on the structural modification and redox properties of a ceria–zirconia mixed oxide of nominal composition Ce 0.6 Zr 0.4 O 2 were investigated by XRD and Rietveld refinement, by BET measurement, TPR and OSC analyses. Spatiotemporal dynamics in the oxidation of groups IV?V metals: study of zirconium

Abstract This paper focus on the mechanism of zirconium oxidation at 850 °C by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the interactions between chemical (oxide growth, phase proportion) and physical processes (oxide scale texture, mechanical stresses). The structural gradients in the oxide scale composed of monoclinic ZrO 2 (higher proportion) and tetragonal ZrO 2 were revealed by XRD at variable incidence. The spatial evolution of the monoclinic zirconia texture through the oxide scale was shown and quantified. Micromechanical approach of the high temperature oxidation of zirconium: study of the Zr/ZrO2 interfacial epitaxy with Bollmann's method

The method of Bollmann has been used to determine the role of epitaxy in the formation of the mechanical stress field near the metal/oxide interface during the high temperature oxidation of zirconium. The strains due to epitaxy combine with those due to both oxygen diffusion in metal and thermal expansion of the metal/oxide composite in a model based on a micromechanical formalism. The calculated values are compared to experimental results and the applicability of Bollmann's method to this problem is discussed.

Determination of hydrogen peroxide using glassy carbon and graphite/polyester composite electrodes modified by vanadium-doped zirconias

Abstract Synthetic monoclinic and tetragonal vanadium-doped zirconias (VZrO2) with vanadium loading ranging from 0.5 to 15 mol% are used to modify glassy carbon and graphite/polyester composite electrodes able to detect oxygen and hydrogen peroxide in neutral aqueous media. Electrodes modified by monoclinic VZrO2 decrease the overpotential for the reduction of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide in neutral and alkaline media and enhance their reduction currents with respect to unmodified carbon electrodes. Mechanical Stresses: Inhibitor of Catalyst of High Temperature Oxidation?

Oxidation of metals is a complex reaction in which mechanical and chemical phenomena occur. A dynamic and macroscopic model is developed in order to simulate oxidation kinetics of a metal. It includes the stress/diffusion coupling in the bulk and the interfacial phenomena at metal/oxide interface. Its application to the Zr/ZrO 2 system shows the important role of stress field distribution in oxide on kinetic behavior. According to the sign of stress gradient in the oxide scale, the oxidation rate can speed up or slow down. The calculated kinetic curves could he fitted using a k p .t 1/n law where n and kp vary all over the process, like for the experimental kinetic curves.
