Liquid–liquid phase behavior of toluene/polyethylene oxide/poly(ethylene oxide-b-dimethylsiloxane) polymer-containing ternary mixtures

The experimental data of phase diagrams for both polyethylene oxide/poly(ethylene oxide-b-dimethylsiloxane) binary and toluene/polyethylene oxide/poly(ethylene oxide-b-dimethylsiloxane) ternary polymer-containing systems was obtained at atmosphere pressure by light scattering method. The critical points for some pre-selected compositions and the pressure effect on the phase transition behavior of ternary system were investigated by turbidity measurements. The chosen system is a mixture of ternary which is one of the very few abnormal polymer-containing systems exhibiting pressure-induced both miscibility and immiscibility. Fabrication of ultra thin anodic aluminium oxide membranes by low anodization voltages

Formation of ultrathin anodised aluminium oxide (AAO) membranes with high aspect ratio by Al anodization in sulphuric and oxalic acids at low potentials was investigated. Low anodization potentials ensure slow electrochemical reaction speeds and formation of AAO membranes with pore diameter and thickness below 20 nm and 70 nm respectively. Minimum time necessary for formation of continuous AAO membranes was determined. AAO membrane pore surface was covered with polymer Paraloid B72TM to transport it to the selected substrate. The fabricated ultra thin AAO membranes could be used to fabricate nanodot arrays on different surfaces.

Multifunctional polymer-derivatized γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals as a methodology for the biomagnetic separation of recombinant His-tagged proteins

Abstract Multifunctional polymer-derivatized superparamagnetic iron oxide (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were prepared for biomagnetic separation of histidine-tagged recombinant proteins building up a faster and efficient method for protein separation by making use of their intrinsic magnetic properties. Using polymer bound γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals, a 6× histidine-tagged recombinant protein (silicatein) with a molecular weight of 24 kDa has been isolated and purified. Rheological study of gel phenomena during epoxide network formation in the presence of sepiolite

The dynamic behaviour during the crosslinking of an epoxy polymer near the gel point was monitored using rheological multiple frequency experiments. The influence of a needle-shaped inorganic nanofiller, sepiolite, either non-modified or organically surface modified during the cure process in the presence of an aliphatic and an aromatic hardener was investigated. The validity of various criteria for determining the gel point was examined for the crosslinking of these filled thermosets. Different carrier proteins exhibiting distinct transport properties participate in cationic amino acid transport. There are sodium-independent systems, such as b+, y+, y+L and b0,+, and a sodium-dependent system B0,+, most of which have now been identified at the molecular level. In most non-epithelial cells, members of the cationic amino acid transporter (CAT) family mediating system y+ activity seem to be the major entry pathway for cationic amino acids. Summary: Several techniques based on different principles have been proposed to measure lipid hydroperoxides. Enzymatic methods are sensitive and can be quite specific but they are subject to interference by inhibitors and not all are stoichiometric. The present work proposes some modifications of the Heath & Tappel (Anal Biochem 1976; 7:184—91) enzymatic method of determination of lipid hydroperoxides in order to standardize and automate it and to meet the analytical criteria required for a biological assay. (1-Adamantyl)methyl glycidyl ether: a versatile building block for living polymerization.

(1-Adamantyl)methyl glycidyl ether (AdaGE) is introduced as a versatile monomer for oxyanionic polymerization, enabling controlled incorporation of adamantyl moieties in aliphatic polyethers. Via copolymerization with ethoxyethyl glycidyl ether (EEGE) and subsequent cleavage of the acetal protection groups of EEGE, hydrophilic linear polyglycerols with an adjustable amount of pendant adamantyl moieties are obtained. Effect of iron and aeration on superoxide dismutase and catalase activity of PHB-producing Azotobacter chroococcum

Abstract The effect of aeration level and iron concentration on Azotobacter chroococcum 23 growth, PHB accumulation and antioxidative enzyme activities was investigated in shake flask experiments. Biomass yield and carbon source conversation coefficients increased in the presence of iron in the growth medium and under decreased aeration. The highest biomass production was observed for the culture grown in a medium with 36 μM of initial iron concentration and moderate aeration level.
