Comparison of distance covered in paddle in the serve team according to performance level

2013

Although paddle is the second most practiced sport in Spain, the scientific knowledge about the players' work-load is still very low. The serve is a critical situation because the team has the opportunity to start the point attacking by approaching the net straight after the serve. However, the distance covered by the serve team still has not been studied in padel. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyse the distance covered by the serve team according performance level. It was hypothesized that the server would cover more distance than his partner due to the approach to the net after the serve. Moreover, it also was hypothesized that the difference between serve and partner would be greater…

Non-surgical periodontal treatment with a new ultrasonic device (Vectortm-ultrasonic system) or hand instruments. A prospective, controlled clinical …

2004

Objectives: The aim of this prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study was to compare the effectiveness of a newly developed ultrasonic device to that of scaling and root planing for non-surgical periodontal treatment. Material and Methods: Thirty-eight patients with moderate to advanced chronic periodontal disease were treated according to an “one-stage procedure” with either a newly developed ultrasonic device (VUS) (Vector™-ultrasonic system) or scaling and root planing (SRP) using hand instruments. Clinical assessments by plaque index (PlI), gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), gingival recession (GR), and clinical attachment level (CAL) were made …

Spinal neuronal correlates of tapentadol analgesia in cancer pain: A back-translational approach

2014

Background Pain is a common and highly debilitating complication for cancer patients significantly compromising their quality of life. Cancer-induced bone pain involves a complex interplay of multiple mechanisms including both inflammatory and neuropathic processes and also some unique changes. Strong opioids are a mainstay of treatments but side effects are problematic and can compromise optimal pain control. Tapentadol is a novel dual-action drug, both stimulating inhibitory μ-opioid receptors (MOR) and mediating noradrenaline reuptake inhibition (NRI) leading to activation of the inhibitory α-2 adrenoceptor. It has been demonstrated to treat effectively both acute and chronic pain. We he…

Methadone versus buprenorphine: data detected from Caltanissetta SER.T

2020

In last years, heroin-addicted have exponentially increased: this has made it necessary to identify a pharmacological strategy as effective as possible. With this purpose, a statistical investigation was conducted in a sample of individuals, aged between 18 and 50. They were diagnosed and subjected to different treatments at Ser.T of Caltanissetta (Sicily-Italy) during the period 2013-2017. The analyzed patients were treated with three different pharmacological therapy: methadone 0.1%, methadone 0.5%, buprenorphine and suboxone. We obtained percentages of responders, low responders and non-responders patients from data processing, based on used therapy. Considering pharmacological responses…

Synthesis of Globular Precursors

2015

o-Carborane (C2 B10 H12 ) was adapted to perform as the core of globular macromolecules, dendrons or dendrimers. To meet this objective, precisely defined substitution patterns of terminal olefin groups on the carborane framework were subjected to Heck cross-coupling reactions or hydroboration leading to hydroxyl terminated arms. These led to new terminal groups (chloro, bromo, and tosyl leaving groups, organic acid, and azide) that permitted ester production, click chemistry, and oxonium ring opening to be performed as examples of reactions that demonstrate the wide possibilities of the globular icosahedral carboranes to produce new dendritic or dendrimer-like structures. One Enzyme, Two Functions

2010

The human enzyme paraoxonase-2 (PON2) has two functions, an enzymatic lactonase activity and the reduction of intracellular oxidative stress. As a lactonase, it dominantly hydrolyzes bacterial signaling molecule 3OC12 and may contribute to the defense against pathogenic Pseudomonas aeruginosa. By its anti-oxidative effect, PON2 reduces cellular oxidative damage and influences redox signaling, which promotes cell survival. This may be appreciated but also deleterious given that high PON2 levels reduce atherosclerosis but may stabilize tumor cells. Here we addressed the unknown mechanisms and linkage of PON2 enzymatic and anti-oxidative function. We demonstrate that PON2 indirectly but specif…

The role of paraoxonase 1 (PON1) as an oxidation marker, in muscle improvement after increased beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) in blood, in patients with …

2020

Various studies have concluded that in multiple sclerosis (MS) metabolic changes related to energy alterations are generated at the mitochondrial level. These changes produce loss of muscle mass and lead to high levels of oxidative stress related to low levels of the enzyme Paraoxonase 1 (PON1). The ketone bodies, mainly beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), restore this energetic alteration by improving muscular activity. This pilot study was conducted over 4 months with 51 patients diagnosed with MS, randomly divided into: an intervention group that received an isocaloric diet of a Mediterranean origin supplemented with 60 ml of coconut oil; and a control group that received the same base diet but …
