Stratigraphy and stage boundaries in reference sections of the Upper Cretaceous Chalk in the east of the Paris Basin: the “Craie 700” Provins borehol…
2005
Abstract The Provins boreholes (Poigny: Craie 701, and Sainte-Colombe: Craie 702) drilled in 1999 as part of the “Craie 700” project initiated by the Paris Basin Geologists' Association provide reference sections for the Upper Cretaceous of the eastern part of the Paris Basin. The lithology of the Cretaceous drilled at Poigny and Sainte-Colombe is presented in two logs displaying major litho-events that provide lines of correlation. Bio-events are expressed by the appearance/disappearance of index species of fossils. Foraminifera give a biozonation close to that defined by previous work on the Anglo-Paris Basin. Some of these bio-events provide a second set of lines useful for correlation. …

Direct measurement of NO3 radical reactivity in a boreal forest
2018
Abstract. We present the first direct measurements of NO3 reactivity (or inverse lifetime, s−1) in the Finnish boreal forest. The data were obtained during the IBAIRN campaign (Influence of Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions on the Reactive Nitrogen budget) which took place in Hyytiälä, Finland during the summer/autumn transition in September 2016. The NO3 reactivity was generally very high with a maximum value of 0.94 s−1 and displayed a strong diel variation with a campaign-averaged nighttime mean value of 0.11 s−1 compared to a daytime value of 0.04 s−1. The highest nighttime NO3 reactivity was accompanied by major depletion of canopy level ozone and was associated with strong temperature…
Stratospheric Aerosols After Pinatubo: Results from the 1991/2 Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition (AASE II)
1996
The Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition II involved measurements of key quantities concerning the chemistry and physics of the stratospheric ozone loss from the NASA operated DC-8 and ER-2 platforms. The series of AASE II flights was conducted between August 22, 1991, until March 26, 1992, from Moffett Field (California), Fairbanks (Alaska), and Bangor (Maine). The timing and location of the AASE II flights permitted to obtain a large data basis pertaining to the effects of the Mt. Pinatubo volcanic plume spreading in the northern hemispheric stratosphere. This contribution presents results obtained from the ER-2 in-situ measurements up to altitudes of ≈ 20 km in the polar stratosphere…
An orbital floating time scale of the Hauterivian/Barremian GSSP from a magnetic susceptibility signal (Río Argos, Spain).
2012
10 pages; International audience; An orbital floating time scale of the HauterivianeBarremian transition (Early Cretaceous) is proposed using high-resolution magnetic susceptibility measurements. Orbital tuning was performed on the Río Argos section (southeast Spain), the candidate for a Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the HauterivianeBarremian transition. Spectral analyses of MS variations, coupled with the frequency ratio method, allow the recognition of precession, obliquity and eccentricity frequency bands. Orbitallytuned magnetic susceptibility provides minimum durations for ammonite biozones. The durations of well-constrained ammonite zones are assessed at 0.78…
Size variations in the genus Gephyrocapsa during the Early Plaeistocene in the eastern Mediterranean
2014
The genus Gephyrocapsa, belonging to coccolithophores, hasoften been used in biostratigraphic and paleoceanographic studies ofthe late Cenozoic. This taxon exhibits a gradual increase in sizeduring the Early Pleistocene which has been ascribed to evolutiveand/or environmental processes and has been used for biostratigraphicpurposes. Here we show both biometric and relative abundance data ofspecimens of this genus between about 2.0 and 0.9 Ma, from sedimentsof the Ionian Sea (eastern Mediterranean). Measurements onthe long axis of placoliths highlight a gradual size increase betweenthe upper part of MNN 19a and the top of MNN 19d biozones. Onthe basis of the comparison with paleoenvironmental…
The influence of ozone and aerosols on the experimental values of UV erythemal radiation at ground level in Valencia
2009
Ultraviolet erythemal radiation (UVER) values have been simulated for different values of column ozone and aerosol optical depth (AOD) using a multiple scattering model: SBDART. The results show that UVER decreased when atmospheric ozone and aerosols increased, with the ozone having greater influence than AOD. To quantify these dependencies the influence of aerosols on the simulated values of UVER has been analysed for different ozone values. This dependence was linear. Similarly, to quantify the influence of ozone on the UVER values this was simulated for fixed values of AOD while varying the column ozone. The expression of this dependence was found to be a second-order polynomial. We also…
Effects of ozone on the foliar histology of the mastic plant (Pistacia lentiscus L.)
2004
[EN] An open-top chamber study was conducted to investigate the tissue and cellular-level foliar effects of ozone (O-3) on a Mediterranean evergreen species, the mastic plant (Pistacia lentiscus L.). Plants were exposed at three different O-3 levels, and leaf samples were collected periodically from the beginning of the exposure. Although no visible foliar injury was evident, alterations of the plastids and vacuoles in the mesophyll were observed. Senescence processes were accelerated with an anomalous stacking of tannin vacuoles, and a reduction in the size and number of the chloroplasts. Overall, most of the modifications induced by O-3 were consistent with previously reported observation…
EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF OZONE THERAPY FOR PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS B: A MULTICENTER, RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL
2018
Background. Ozone therapy has a long history. Some studies proved that ozone therapy was useful in treatment of virus hepatitis. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of new medical ozone therapy system for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Method. One hundred eighty-nine patients with chronic hepatitis B were included in this open-label, phase 3 study, and randomly assigned to receive ozone autohemotherapy with experimental ozone generator TianYi (group 1) or with ozone generator Humares (group 2) or oral diammonium glycyrrhizinate capsules (group 3) in a 1:1:1 ratio for 12 weeks. The primary efficacy end point was sera HBV DNA level of less than 1×103 IU/ml or having a more t…
Interactions between willows and insect herbivores under enhanced ultraviolet-B radiation
2002
We studied the effects of elevated ultraviolet-B radiation on interactions between insect herbivores and their host plants by exposing two species of phytochemically different willows, Salix myrsinifolia and S. phylicifolia, to a modulated increase in ultraviolet radiation in an outdoor experiment and monitoring the colonisation of insect herbivores on these willows. We examined the effect of increased ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation on (1) the quality of willow leaves, (2) the distribution and abundance of insect herbivores feeding on these willows, (3) the resulting amount of damage, and (4) the performance of insect larvae feeding on the exposed plant tissue. Six clones of each of the two…
