P-491 - Sensitivity to changes during antidepressant treatment: a comparison of unidimensional depression rating scales in patients with minor depres…

2012

In the efficacy evaluation of antidepressant treatments the total score of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) is still regarded as the’gold standard’. Studies suggest that unidimensional subscales of the HAMD, which capture the core depressive symptoms, outperform the full HAMD regarding the detection of antidepressant treatment effects. The present study compared several unidimensional subscales of the HAMD and the Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (IDS) regarding their sensitivity to changes in depression symptoms in a sample of patients with minor depression (MIND). Biweekly IDS-C28 and HAMD17 data from 287 patients of a 10-week randomised, placebo-controlled trial comparin…

Insights into online reviews of hotel service attributes: A cross-national study of selected countries in Africa

2018

Online travel reviews are paramount to trip planning because they help consumers’ form images of destinations. Despite ample studies on hotel service attributes, knowledge is scarce regarding culturally nuanced attributes, including security perceptions. This study examines consumers’ perceptions of service attributes and security/safety concerns of hotels in Africa. Data were extracted from three hotel categories (3, 4, and 5-stars), which were based on TripAdvisor rankings from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. A hybrid analysis revealed that hotel service attributes and security/safety are cardinal evaluation criteria for visitors to Africa. Additionally, our study reveals …

Control of powdery mildew in cut roses using natural products in the greenhouse.

2009

Roses grown under greenhouse cultivation are commonly affected by diseases and regular fungicide applications are commonly used. The aim of this research was to identify natural products that can substitute and reduce the health and environmental impacts of typical chemical treatments in the control of powdery mildew [(Podosphaera pannosa (Wallr. Fr.) de Bary] and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.). Treatments were applied in the greenhouse on the cut rose cultivars Sunluck (Gold Strike®) and Nirpbredy (New Fashion®) growing in a soilless system. Oregano and clove essential oil at 0.5 ml/l (an emulsifier was added) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) at 4 g/l were sprayed on rose plants to run…

A Psychometric Evaluation of the Group Environment Questionnaire in a Sample of Professional Basketball and Soccer Players

2013

Psychometric properties of the Group environment Questionnaire were investigated in a large sample of soccer (n = 222) and professional basketball players (n = 375). Confirmatory factor analysis was performed both on the total sample and on the two sub samples through a multi-group approach; associations between cohesion and the duration of belonging to the team were also explored. Results confirmed the four-factor structure proposed by Carron's original model even though some items with low loadings were eliminated. No signifcant associations were found between team cohesion and the duration of belonging to the team. © Perceptual & Motor Skills 2013.

Sleep habits in children affected by autism spectrum disorders: A preliminary case-control study

2017

Introduction: The core of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) consists of alterations of neurological functions that affect the typical developmental trajectory leading to deficits in social interaction and non-verbal behaviors. In general, ASD is diagnosed at age three and many other frequent neurological signs may be present, such as sleep disorders. The aim of study is evaluating sleep habits in a sample of ASD children. Material and methods: The study population consists of 65 ASD children (43 males and 22 females), aged between 2 and 11 years (mean 5.73 ± 2.39 years). The control group consists of 114 children with typical development (68 males and 46 females), aged between 3 and 10 years …

Evaluation and Research in Group Psychotherapy. An Italian Contribution

2011

This paper presents some key findings in group therapy research and evaluation, and future directions of research in this field. Interest has been focused on the understanding of the clinical therapeutic process and on the possibility of studying it from a scientific point of view. The perspective is to increase the clinical relapse of empirical research on psychotherapy, promoting close integration between the work of clinicians, engaged in the real experience of treating patients, and researchers, interested in providing useful and scientifically based tools for the understanding of the therapeutic work. We present the essential lines of the work produced by the research group of the Depa…
