Diritti per l’educazione. Contesti e orientamenti pedagogici
2020
The book focuses on the Convention on the Right of child as the result of a slow historical, cultural and in particular pedagogical path of progressive discovery of the specific dignity of childhood and adolescence. It is argue that, even if nowadays, more than thirty years after the drafting of the Convention, the attention to the intrinsic dignity of boys and girls, may seem indisputable and obvious, however such an attention is an achievement for a small part of the world and, also woth regard to the so-called advanced society, one might wonder to what extent and in what contexts, the twentieth century was the century of children and what is really, in the century we are living, the care…
Biopartitioning micellar chromatography to pedict mutagenicity of aromatic amines
2007
[EN] Mutagenicity is a toxicity endpoint associated with the chronic exposure to chemicals. Aromatic amines have considerable industrial and environmental importance due to their widespread use in industry and their mutagenic capacity. Biopartitioning micellar chromatography (BMC), a mode of micellar liquid chromatography that uses micellar mobile phases of Brij35 in adequate experimental conditions, has demonstrated to be useful in mimicking the drug partitioning process into biological systems. In this paper, the usefulness of BMC for predicting mutagenicity of aromatic amines is demonstrated. A multiple linear regression (MLR) model based on BMC retention data is proposed and compared wi…
Bortezomib induces in HepG2 cells IkappaBalpha degradation mediated by caspase-8.
2006
The present paper demonstrates that the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib, which behaves as an apoptotic agent in hepatoma HepG2 cells, caused in these cells a decrease in IkappaBalpha level and a consequent increase in NF- kappaB activity. The effect already appeared at 4 h of treatment and preceded the onset of apoptosis which was observed at 24 h. Our results demonstrate that bortezomib-induced IkappaBalpha degradation occurred in conjunction with the activation of caspase-8; moreover, the decrease in IkappaBalpha level was prevented in a dose-dependent manner by the addition of z-IETD, a specific inhibitor of caspase-8. Bortezomib caused the same effects in non-tumor Chang liver cells, wh…

Les systèmes éducatifs engendrent-ils des inégalités de bien-être ? : une recherche comparative internationale
2018
This study investigates the association between post-secondary education and well-being in international comparative perspective, conceptualizing well-being as a capability-informed measure of flourishing. Based on a combined human capital–capability approach, post-secondary education, operationalized as highest post-secondary educational credential, is hypothesized to relate positively with well-being net of individual-level and country-level controls at both the micro and macro levels of analysis. Prominent critiques of these approaches, suggesting indirect effects through occupational sorting at the individual level and economic factors at the country level, are also explored.Beyond thes…
Understanding the use of mobile phones in the agricultural sector in rural Indonesia: using the capability approach as lens
2012
This study aims to investigate the use of mobile phones in the agricultural sector and its possible contributions to development of developing countries, with special reference to Indonesia. In our interpretive work, the capability approach is used as a lens, and the study is informed by data from interviews with various actors and field observations. The paper unearths the pattern of use of mobile phones among farmers in their professional network and shows that ownership and use of mobile phones varies, depending on the farmers' location in the network hierarchy. The study further unveils that the conversion factors play a significant role in order to realise achievement (functionings) fr…
Capabilities and Affordances in the ICT4D Context
2019
Part 1: Pushing the Boundaries - New Research Methods, Theory and Philosophy in ICT4D; International audience; The paper examines two concepts that have been frequently used in Information and Communications Technologies for Development (ICT4D) research, capabilities and affordance. We seek to delineate their similarities, their differences, and their accurate application in ICT4D. Both concepts connote a space of opportunities, both are relational between artefact and human agency when applied in ICT4D, and both entail potential rather than actualisation of possibilities. By comparing the two at some length, we hope to generate a more refined understanding of both capabilities and affordan…
