Identification of international media events by spatial and temporal aggregation of RSS flows of newspapers

The GEOMEDIA research project (ANR Corpus, 2013-2015) aims to elaborate an international observatory of media events, based on the collection of RSS flows sent by 100 newspapers of French and English languages. This contribution (1) describes the complexity of the information contained in RSS flows according to space, time and media dimensions; (2) derives basic solutions for the identification of international events on the basis of procedures of time aggregation; (3) analyzes the spatial interaction between countries through an analysis of co-quotations in RSS flows; (4) checks the existence of possible interactions between the two previous dimensions.
The Blog, the Blogger and the Other on the Net

This work describes a qualitative research, still in progress, about blogging. This experience is fully linked to the concept of "social presence": users feel "to be there" in the virtual environment. From a brief review of researches about blogging, we propose a work that, through a semi-structured interview (submitted on line), could analyze the mental representations of bloggers. Moreover, we have the purpose to read these impressions through a key pattern of interactions between blog, blogger and other users. The primary goal of this study, still preparatory, is to explore the psychological means of blogging.
ON SOME GENERALIZATION OF SMOOTHING PROBLEMS

The paper deals with the generalized smoothing problem in abstract Hilbert spaces. This generalized problem involves particular cases such as the interpolating problem, the smoothing problem with weights, the smoothing problem with obstacles, the problem on splines in convex sets and others. The theorem on the existence and characterization of a solution of the generalized problem is proved. It is shown how the theorem gives already known theorems in special cases as well as some new results.
XMM Optical Monitor Survey of TMC

The Optical Monitor (OM) on-board XMM-Newton obtained optical/ultraviolet data for the XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST), simultaneously with the X-ray detectors. With the XEST OM data, we study the optical and ultraviolet properties of TMC members, and to perform correlative studies between the X-ray and OM light curves. In particular, we aim to determine whether accretion plays a significant role in the optical/ultraviolet and X-ray emissions. The Neupert effect in stellar flares is also investigated. This article explores how a diffractive methodology can enrich research on organizational space and the senses. Through the creation of interferences, a diffractive methodology directs attention to how differences in sensing are created in the ongoing production of space and what the effects of these are.
