Evaluation of Alternaria mycotoxins in strawberries: quantification and storage condition
2016
Alternariol (AOH), alternariol methyl ether (AME) and tentoxin (TEN) are Alternaria mycotoxins produced by the most common post-harvest pathogens of fruits. The production of these metabolites depends on several environmental factors, mainly temperature, water activity, pH and the technological treatments that have been applied to the product. In this study, the occurrence of AOH, AME and TEN was evaluated in strawberries samples stored at different temperatures ranges (at 22 ± 2 or 6 ± 2°C) and different periods (up to 1 month) simulating the current practice of consumer's storage conditions. Sample extraction was performed using a liquid-liquid extraction method prior to LC-MS/MS analysis…
GABAergic System in Action: Connection to Gastrointestinal Stress-related Disorders.
2017
Background: Currently, treatment of stress-related gastrointestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), is mainly symptomatic since there is no drug on the market that solves effectively diverse disease symptoms and comorbid states. Thus, recently GABA receptors have been identified within gastrointestinal system and it has been recognized that among various GABAergic drugs some of them influence gastrointestinal stress-related diseases. Firstly, benzodiazepines have been investigated due to their diverse effects: neuroimmunomodulatory, relief of visceral pain and anxiolytic action. Conclusion: The present review brings findings on the exp…
Diagnostic electrophysiological study in a highly trained young woman with presyncopal symptoms during exercise: a case report
2021
Right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) ventricular tachycardia (VT) is frequent and occurs in patients without structural heart disease, especially in highly trained athletes. Most of the studies on cardiac adaptations to exercise have been investigated in male athletes. Women, however, are increasingly participating in sports and electrical and structural adaptations in male and female athletes differ significantly. These cardiac adaptations dissimilarities between males and females have potential implications in diagnosing certain types of arrhythmias. We present here a case of a 35-year-old highly-trained woman endurance athlete that attended the clinic complaining about chest pain and d…
Azure C Targets and Modulates Toxic Tau Oligomers.
2018
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions of people worldwide. Therefore, finding effective interventions and therapies is extremely important. AD is one of over 20 different disorders known as tauopathies, characterized by the pathological aggregation and accumulation of tau, a microtubule-associated protein. Tau aggregates are heterogeneous and can be divided into two major groups: large metastable fibrils, including neurofibrillary tangles, and oligomers. The smaller, soluble and dynamic tau oligomers have been shown to be more toxic with more proficient seeding properties for the propagation of tau pathology as compared to the …
Purchase intention and purchase behavior online: A cross-cultural approach
2020
This article aims to explore the key factors on e-commerce adoption from elements of social psychology, such as attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, ease of use and perceived usefulness, introducing the study of non-traditional elements like buying impulse, compatibility, and self-efficacy in online stores, contrasting relationships in a cross-cultural environment. The proposed model is tested from quantitative research with a sample of 584 online consumers in Colombia and Spain. The following statistical analyses were conducted: CFA, structural equations, measurement instrument invariance, and multi-group analysis with EQS 6.3 software. The study reveals that self-effi…
The Coat-Hanger Angle Sign
2016
An infant boy, the second child of healthy parents, was born at 35.5 weeks of gestation by cesarean delivery performed in emergency because of fetal bradycardia and polyhydramnios. At birth his weight was 2770 g (62nd percentile), length 48.3 cm (69th percentile), and head circumference 33.5 cm (64th percentile). Findings of a phys- ical examination showed a broad forehead, a depressed nasal bridge, anteverted nares, a long and protruding philtrum, a high arched palate, retrognathia, joint contractures, and an umbilical hernia. The Apgar score was 6/8 at 1/5 minutes. Because of progressive respiratory distress he required hos- pitalization and noninvasive support ventilation for the first 3…
Iwr1 facilitates RNA polymerase II dynamics during transcription elongation.
2017
Iwr1 is an RNA polymerase II (RNPII) interacting protein that directs nuclear import of the enzyme which has been previously assembled in the cytoplasm. Here we present genetic and molecular evidence that links Iwr1 with transcription. Our results indicate that Iwr1 interacts with RNPII during elongation and is involved in the disassembly of the enzyme from chromatin. This function is especially important in resolving problems posed by damage-arrested RNPII, as shown by the sensitivity of iwr1 mutants to genotoxic drugs and the Iwr1's genetic interactions with RNPII degradation pathway mutants. Moreover, absence of Iwr1 causes genome instability that is enhanced by defects in the DNA repair…
11q Deletion or ALK Activity Curbs DLG2 Expression to Maintain an Undifferentiated State in Neuroblastoma
2020
High-risk 11q deleted neuroblastomas typically display undifferentiated/poorly differentiated morphology. Neuroblastoma is thought to develop from Schwann cell precursors and undifferentiated neural crest (NC) derived cells. It is therefore vital to understand mechanisms involved in the block of differentiation. We identify an important role for oncogenic ALK-ERK1/2-SP1 signaling in maintenance of undifferentiated NC-derived progenitors via repression of DLG2, a tumor suppressor in neuroblastoma. DLG2 is expressed in the ‘bridge signature’ that represents the transcriptional transition state when neural crest cells or Schwann Cell Precursors become chromaffin cells of the adrenal gland. We …

Evaluation of scientific output in Dentistry in Spanish Universities
2016
Background: The aim of this study was to assess the scientific output of Spanish universities that offer a bachelor’s degree in dentistry through the use of various bibliometric indicators. Material and Methods: A total of 21 universities offered a bachelor’s degree in dentistry in academic year 2016- 2017. The search for papers published by authors associated with these institutions was carried out using the selection of journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and the Web of Knowledge database for the period 1986-2017. On the basis of these data, we determined the output, the h-, g- and hg-indexes, the most productive authors, international collaborations, and the most releva…
