INTRODUZIONE AL D.LGS. 19 GENNAIO 2017, N. 3, DI ATTUAZIONE DELLA DIR. 2014/104/UE SUL RISARCIMENTO DEI DANNI PER VIOLAZIONE DELLA NORMATIVA ANTITRUST

2018

With the issuance of Legislative Decree January 19, 2017, no. 3 was implemented the…

Populations of breeding birds in Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands

2013

Data about breeding populations of birds in the Antarctica are rare and fragmented. Thus, information about the status of the breeding populations of Antarctic birds is crucial given the current scenario of climate change, which is particularly acute in Antarctica. This paper presents new information about the populations of the Antarctic tern Sterna vittata, the kelp gull Larus dominicanus, the southern giant petrel Macronectes giganteus, the Antarctic skua Catharacta antarctica lonnbergi, the chinstrap penguin Pygoscelis antarctica and the gentoo penguin Pygoscelis papua on Byers Peninsula (Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands). We used line transects counts to estimate both densitie…

Photocatalytic ozonation for a sustainable aquaculture: A long-term test in a seawater aquarium

2019

Abstract A long-term test at a laboratory scale with a closed system (a coral reef aquarium) has been carried out to study the potentialities of photocatalytic ozonation and photocatalysis for the removal of noxious organic compounds in recirculating systems (aquaria and recirculating aquaculture systems) working with a minimum make up of new water. Attention has been focused not only on the depuration capabilities but also on possible negative phenomena, some of which could become apparent only at long times. After having tuned the system by setting appropriate operating conditions and procedures, positive results were obtained. In particular, it was observed that the alternation of photoc…

The possibilities of using the aspen poplar seeds (Populus tremula L.) for the purpose of removing monoaromatic hydrocarbons from an aqueous solution

2018

Sorption of oil-related products (including mainly the propellants) is the very basic process that counteracts spreading these types of pollution into environment. Plenty of synthetic substances are used as sorbents for binding organic compounds (including the monoaromatic hydrocarbons) both from the surface and underground waters. The aim of this paper is to present results of the research on the possibilities of using the aspen poplar (Populus tremula L.) seeds as a sorbent of monoaromatic hydrocarbons from an aqueous solution. In order to increase sorption capacity, the seeds biomass was submitted for the process of mercerizing in diversified time and temperature in water and the NaOH so…

Halloysite nanotubes filled with MgO for paper reinforcement and deacidification

2021

Abstract A novel material for the deacidification and protection of paper has been designed by using MgO filled halloysite nanotubes (Hal). The ability of MgO loaded nanotubes to control the acidic conditions was evaluated by pH measurements in aqueous solvent. Afterwards, paper was impregnated into hydroxypropyl cellulose dispersions containing the consolidating material. A simulation of strong acidic conditions allowed us to evaluate the deacidification effect of the composite material on the samples. In particular, the paper reaches a pH of 7.7 after 1 h exposition to HNO3 vapours when MgO-Hal nanoparticles are added to the impregnation mixture at a concentration of 10 wt% and it remains…

Biosorption lead(II) and nikel(II) from an aqueous solution by bacterial biomass

2010

Biosorption lead(II) and nikel(II) from an aqueous solution by bacterial biomass The optimum conditions for biosorption of Pb(II) and Ni(II) from aqueous solution were investigated, by using living and nonliving Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus pumilus isolated from wastewater treatment plant. It was found that the optimum pH for Pb(II) removal by living and nonliving cells was 6.0, while 7.0 for Ni(II) removal. At the optimal conditions, metal ion biosorption was increased as the initial metal concentration increased. The binding capacity by living cells is significantly higher than that of nonliving cells at tested conditions. The maximum biosorption capacities for lead and nickel by …

Diversification of CYCLOIDEA-like TCP genes in the basal eudicot families Fumariaceae and Papaveraceae s.str.

2006

CYCLOIDEA-like genes belong to the TCP family of transcriptional regulators and have been shown to control different aspects of shoot development in various angiosperm lineages, including flower monosymmetry in asterids and axillary meristem growth in monocots. Genes related to the CYC gene from ANTIRRHINUM show independent duplications in both asterids and rosids. However, it remains unclear to what extent this affected the evolution of flower symmetry and shoot branching in these and other eudicot lineages. Here, we show that CYC-like genes have also undergone duplications in two related Ranunculales families, Fumariaceae and Papaveraceae s.str. These families exhibit morphological divers…

Las exploraciones arqueológicas de 1930 en los túmulos de "La Mata" (Campanario, Badajoz)

2014

Before systematic excavation made between 1990-2002, the building Protohistoric of "La Mata" (Campanario, Badajoz) was a great mound of land known in the area with the expressive name place "Monton de Tierra Grande", to differentiate it from "Monton de Tierra Chico," a funerary monument and located almost 1 km Southeast of the first one. Both mounds were explored in early 1930 by Virgilio Viniegra Vera and John White Gallardo. These actions, although known, were insufficiently valued in our study of "La Mata" published in 2004 because this documentation wasn’t known to us. Recently we recovered a number of articles and news in the newspapers Correo Extremeno and Sol, that allowed to us to k…

TP53 codon 72 polymorphism and cervical cancer

2009

Background Cervical cancer is caused primarily by human papillomaviruses (HPV). The polymorphism rs1042522 at codon 72 of the TP53 tumour-suppressor gene has been investigated as a genetic cofactor. More than 80 studies were done between 1998 and 2006, after it was initially reported that women who are homozygous for the arginine allele had a risk for cervical cancer seven times higher than women who were heterozygous for the allele. However, results have been inconsistent. Here we analyse pooled data from 49 studies to determine whether there is an association between TP53 codon 72 polymorphism and cervical cancer. Methods Individual data on 7946 cases and 7888 controls from 49 different st…
